  • Atkins Newbie, Day 5

Hello, my name is Shawna & yes I am Vasili's Wife(another Atkins believer)....

So I am on Day 5 of Induction, doing okay I guess. My husband is fine with eating nothing but cheese, meat, eggs & broccoli every single day of his life, I am very much not that type, which is why I am here.

I am decent in the kitchen & getting better. With atkins I am getting creative(pork rinds beaten until they look like bread crums, some raw egg & then try to make fried cheese sticks or chicken covered in pork rinds, actually the chicken is pretty darn good. Cheese sticks I will have to try again)

Anyway, my point: I do not know what a poached egg is. I do not know the difference between soft boiled & hard boiled eggs. Daikon, radicchio, mache, sorrel, kale, snow peas....I don't know what any of these are, much less how to cook them, what they taste like, where to get them, etc.

I like having options & I don't mind having to get creative. In this diet it is difficult not to feel like "those are all things I can't have", especially when I don't know about the things I can have, which leads me back to eating nothing but cheese, meat, eggs & brocolli every day for the last five days.

    Folks, any ideas, suggestions??

Check out the recipe section here...lots of grea things to make with simple ingredients. Also, what kind of grocery stores do you have around you? I know that at some stores, the produce section has cards or brochures around to tell you what certain vegetables are, how to tell if they are ripe, how to fix them, what the taste like, etc. That might be a great idea for you to check out if you have several different grocery stores in your area.

      Hi Shawna
      Welcome to our ADBB family!

One way I found out what some vegetables looked like (to discover what we in UK call them) was to use Google's images search pages.
Just click on the word 'images' above the normal google search box and then type in the name and you will be shown pics of the vegetable etc.

Here is Daikon - a white large radish

and raddichio - a sort of red cabbage
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Googling images of veggies is a great suggestion. I think low carb cookbooks are wonderful. I have several from Dana Carpenter and I feel motived by having them and trying new things. I didn't know how to soft cook an egg either. I did a google search.

This site might help you figure things out.
