    Re: Need some advice..

I have about thirty five pounds to lose and I have lost four in my first five days of induction. You can lost it fairly quickly if you are really strict. I doubt you lose as much because you have less to lose than I. I would guess around seven or eight pounds.

I am sure someone else will give you a more scientific answer. Good luck. You can do it!
    149.8/no weigh/ 119

    1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
what the rungs mean to me:
    rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
    rung 4 - berries, melon
    rung 5 - wine -
    rung 6 - beans, hummus
    rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
    Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
    (on to pre-maintenance)

The amount of weight you will lose is not a precise formula--there are many factors that contribute to your success...

Are you doing a clean induction?
Are you drinking all of your water, and then some?
      Are you exercising regularly?
Are you eating to feed your hunger, not to clean your plate?
Are you carefully measuring veggies and cheese?

It also depends on how much weight you have to lose...those with less weight to lose will probably lose less on induction than say, someone who has 100 pounds to lose. There is a chart that lets you gauge your metabolic resistance in DANDR...some smart person on here could probably even tell you what chapter it's in--that chart will give you a clue of how your weight loss will be AFTER induction.

It's also helpful to use fitday to track your carbs and food percentages. It's essential to eat about 65% fat, 5% carbs, 30% protein.

        Re: Need some advice..

Juli and Shannon are right - it will depend on many variables, but if you follow the rules you will lose the best you can

It is suggested that most of us will lose between 5% and 10% of the weight we hope to lose during the 14 days induction.

So for someone with 25 pounds to lose 1-3 pounds would be 'normal' - anything over that is a bonus!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

          Re: Need some advice..

          Good morning, Tina!

You've asked an excellent question and have received wonderful responses! I just like to add that you keep in mind one very special thing about Atkins, its a way of eating for life. Atkins is not intended to be a quick fix that we so hope would happen, like tossing a coin in the fountain and wishing for 15 pounds to fall off over night.

          Best wishes!
