  • constipation...

    Hi, I'm mom-to-5.
This is my 4th day of induction, and I haven't gone to the bathroom in 5 days. Is anyone else having this problem? I had to take a laxative this morning, because I was extremely bloated and uncomfortable.
i tried the phsyllium husks for 2 days, but it's nasty, and didn't work.
Also, I did not lose any weight today, [ i had been losing one pound everyday], could it be because I haven't gone to the bathroom in 5 days?
seems to me that could be the reason. i just hope it's not the atkins bar i had yesterday
I'd to hear from others on this issue.
    thank you
    mom-to-5

    Re: constipation...

Psyllium husks, flax seed and wheat bran are "bulk forming" fibers. They require adequate water intake in order to work. Also they don't work overnight.

You might want to take a close look at your Induction menu. Make sure you are eating the alotted vegetables and make sure you are eating the higer fiber vegetables on the list.

Also be sure to drink enough water. Dr. Atkins recommended at least 64 ounces of water daily.

I could never stomach the psyllium husks mixed in water so used to add them to mayonnaise to disguise them.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Hi Mom-to-5, to solve the immediate problem (if it is badly uncomfortable) you could try a laxative of course. But the ongoing issue is to be sure you get enough fiber. I make the following bread and have 1/2 a piece a day. (there are other ways to use the flax - by adding it to stuff, by making flax crackers, etc. but this is my personal favorite and it takes great!)

        1.5 tablespoons olive oil
        1 tsp. baking powder
        Pinch of salt
        1 egg
        1/4 cup of flax

Put in a microwaveable bowl that is about the size of an english muffin and has reasonably high sides. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Turn upside down and let sit for 1 minute. Slice in half and toast.

By getting your 2 spoons or so of Flax a day that will help the missing fiber problem a lot!

        Good luck!

Make sure you are drinking enough water! Look at veggies fiber content using fitday. Some of the veggies are a lot higher in fiber. Consider moving onto OWL after the 14 day induction. You can have more veggies and that might help. Sometimes I find that exercise helps me to go. TMI? LOL
