  • Thinking of cheating? Read this first!

I only made four days on Induction before I fell off the wagon. So this time I picked up some quotes from DANDR book about cheating which I find very useful to keep me going and don’t give up. I hope they will help someone else as well.

    • Remember that it takes two to three days for the body to switch to fat burning. One cheat and you’re back to a glucose-burning metabolism. You can lose the effects of two or three days of fat burning with one cheat.
    • If you combine high carbs with high fat – the typical American diet – you can be increasing your cardiovascular risks.
    • People who repeatedly regain weight and go back to Induction sometimes find that they do not experience the dramatic and easy weight loss they initially enjoyed. Add in the fact that none of us is getting any younger and our metabolism’s natural tendency is to slow down with passing years. Finally, your body pays a price health wise if you dramatically switch back and forth repeatedly from a fat-burning to a glucose-burning metabolism.
    • Sometimes, of course, you might do more than just bend the amount of carbs you are supposed to be consuming each day – by eating a food that should be avoided altogether. The weight regain is usually so profound it can be measured in pounds per day.

Re: Thinking of cheating? Read this first!

Thanks for that added info. I have been off of the boards a while because I fell off the wagon after 4 days (and that was about 3 weeks ago) also and have decided to restart. I needed that encouragement. I am so afraid to start because I feel I will have to restrict myself the rest of my life to not regain, so once I start........that's it for me. I know that is pityfull and poor thinking on my part, but It is just the way I feel. I feel like I wouldnt be able to handle a cheat day ever in my life and it scares me.

You know, another way I look at it is: Why work so hard if you think you might cheat down the road?

Good info, thanks for the inspiration

Re: Thinking of cheating? Read this first!

I’m doing really well – only 9 days to go on Induction Although I’m a huge fruit lover I’m not tempted by ‘illegal’ foods.

These quotes help so much – I read them every day. And, of course, from time to time I log in to Atkins bulletin forum. Your support is very much appreciated.

Stephanie –don’t give up, you can do it girl! Ask family members and friends to help you to achieve your goal.

I made myself a few copies of calendar from the date I started Induction till the date I expect achieving my goal (I’ve hung one copy on a wall and the other copy I carry with me everywhere). When a day passed I cross it out and feel so proud of myself that I made it another day on Induction. Maybe this method would help you too. Good luck!

Re: Thinking of cheating? Read this first!

It's been a week since I restarted Induction. I weighted myself this morning expecting to see some weight loss. But the scales showed the same result as it was a week ago, no change in my measurements as well .
The reason for this might be that TOM is on its' way or maybe I should stop eating cheese completely for the next week.

Although I'm a little disappointed with seeing no results I'm not giving up. Dr Atkins diet really works and so many of you have proved that!

Stephanie - I hope you are still on track. Forgive me if I'm wrong but from your posts I've got an impresion you don't believe you can do it. Positive attitude helps much more than negative, doesn't it?
