  • I'm on day 3 of a "clean" induction & i think that its the atkins flu but...

    want to check with ya'll. Last night after eating supper "a crustless quiche & 1 cup green beans with cheese" i started feeling sick to my stomach. today when i had a flax seed muffin(induction friendly) for my snack. there were a couple times i had to literally hold my throat to keep from it coming up. I just made the flax seed muffins on sunday night so i dont think its that. just wanted to make sure?

    Welcome to ketosis

    I know. It seems really counterintuitive, but you feeling like crap is a GOOD thing The good news is that it won't last long.

    I'd suggest doing a forum search on "induction flu" around here. You'll find TONS of advice.

        rscott--induction flu is the worst...but there are some things you can do to make yourself feel a little better...
        1) DRINK LOTS OF WATER--yeah I know, for me, the THOUGHT of drinking water when I was nauseous was disgusting, because all I wanted was a diet coke, but I drank the water anyway...and it really did help! You're probably dehydrated and the water will help your body function and get back up to full speed.
        2) TAKE A PAIN RELIEVER--advil, tylenol, motrin, whatever. Kind of a no-brainer...but it helps.
        3) TAKE IT EASY--don't try to start your new Pilates DVD or go to the gym for a power workout. Rest until you feel better...or if you MUST exercise, try something gentle like a walk around the neighborhood.
        4) BE HAPPY--this cruddy feeling means your body is on its way to being a fat-burning machine. Congratulations, you're officially on Atkins.

          I agree. It is definitely induction flu. Stick with it. You will come out of it all the better! I am on day three (uh, again) and I am starting to feel it as well. Let's do ourselves a favor and make sure that this time is the last.

          what the rungs mean to me:
          rung 1 - more veggies
          rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
          rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
          rung 4 - berries, melon
          rung 5 - wine -
          rung 6 - beans, hummus
          rung 7 - other fruits
          rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
          rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
          Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
          (on to pre-maintenance)
