  • Theme Parks?

I live in the theme park capital of the world. We are going this week-end again and I need some help. I have identified this as a huge trigger for me to cheat. I really want to learn to do the theme parks without deciding that I must have that hamburger and fries, etc...

Walking around does provide a lot of exercise opportunity so that is never a problem. BUT, I always slip up with the food.

    Any suggestions??

    Please don't say boiled eggs...

Last time, I brought boiled eggs for snack and that back fired on me.

    Re: Theme Parks?

What theme park? I went to Hershey last weekend, and had a salad and bacon cheeseburger (bunless) for lunch. I took some jerky and water along as well.

You know, I always forget about the bunless burgers. Good tip. We are going to MGM this week-end for the Holiday lights.

        Yeah, what theme park?
When I went to Disneyworld, I had a HUGE and I mean HUGE smoked turkey leg for lunch in the Hunchback of Notre Dame theme area. I wasn't on ATKINS at the time, but it's Atkins friendly. I'd figure all parks have healthy options such as have salads, etc..
I'm assuming that what you may actually be asking is how do you avoid giving in to all of the non-Atkin's friendly treats that the parks sell. I'd take snacks along, such as beef jerky, deli meats, etc... if you aren't sure about the food selections in the park. But I think you'd be able to find a lot of things you can eat.

            Re: Theme Parks?

We are going to MGM and we are having dinner at the Brown Derby. I know that there are several options at that restaurant! Yum. I am just concerned when everyone is having that mid day snack and the pizza looks so easy and appetizing. Salads take a long time to eat. I just want to be prepared!! Any ideas on things that I can pack myself that will keep nicely in a backpack?

The giant turkey leg. I have definitely seen those. I will keep it in mind!

              Re: Theme Parks?

EAT A LOT BEFORE YOU GO! Also take along a water bottle you can refill, a bag of pork skins, jerky, vienna sausage, or celery & cheese (etc) in CASE you feel hungry at the snack time.

And yes, those turkey legs are great! So is steak on a stick.

                  Re: Theme Parks?

I'm in Tampa and we have annual passes to DW...we go alot and never have I had a problem staying on plan.

Bunless burgers, turkey legs, southwest chicken salad at Liberty Inn at Epcot (minus the corn .. have them make you one special), rotisserie chicken minus the potatoes at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe in Magic Kingdom (fill up on the condiment bar with the sauteed mushrooms, tomatoes, lettuce), Tusker House at Animal Kingdom (rotisserie chicken, double greenbeans, no potatoes) .. etc., YES IT CAN BE DONE AND QUITE EASILY.

                      Re: Theme Parks?

I live in Orlando, too! I would grill up some chicken breasts and slice them into strips. Then put them into a baggy. Use a small cooler (like a childrens lunch box) or just put the baggy into another baggy with some ice in it.

                        Re: Theme Parks?

Chicken breasts is a great idea. Or even steak slices. You know, if I could only get into cooking, I would be so much better off. What is easy for others is always complicated for me.

Orlando, too? I am actually in Oviedo. How about you? Very neat.

I know! That is wierd, I would have never thought I would find someone on the forum who lives so close. I live (temporarily) in Deltona, but I'm moving to the Altomonte Springs area in January.

Cooking isn't that hard. It's just like everything else, you have to have confidence. Tell yourself you can do it. I'm a self taught cook, and the only way I learned how was by trial and error. PM me if you need any help or have questions.
