        Re: vitamins

I buy the Naturemade Womens 50+ (anything for 50+ contains no iron) and you can get those anywhere.

Ummmmmmm, I've never counted the carb for my vitamin...but then again, the naturemade ones don't have a lot of "filler" in them. Unless you're taking a horse pill, the carb count, if there IS one, is negligible. Just make sure your vitamin isn't one of those Flinstones vitamins with sugar! LOL

Sentury-Vite at Walmart. Works great. I also take Glucosamine/Chondroitin .. OMG, they are THE BOMB ..

As a 50 year old runner for 3 years, I've developed some arthritis and I can tell ya, Glucosamine WORKS .. its amazing.

                  Re: vitamins

I take a multi-vitamin that is a drug store brand. I make sure they are chelated though. I also take calcium (Costco...great price).

                    Re: vitamins

I looked up chelated and got this definition for a Chelate: "A chemical compound in the form of a heterocyclic ring, containing a metal ion attached by coordinate bonds to at least two nonmetal ions."

OK, so I really don't know what this means or why this would be important in a multi-vitamin. Can you give more info please?

                      Re: vitamins

As I understand it chelated minerials are much easier absorbed by the body. The label will say they are chelated and the price is usually higher. I found this explaination which may be helpful:

The majority of vitamin and mineral supplements contain most of the thirteen essential vitamins and twenty-two essential minerals. But there are a few things that make one supplement better than another. For starters, those that contain chelated vitamins and minerals are best. What is chelation? Basically, it is a process of wrapping a mineral with an organic molecule such as an amino acid that increases the absorption dramatically. Supplements containing mineral salts do not have good absorption qualities, so you’re not really getting the full value of the vitamin. You can usually find a selection of chelated supplements at most health food stores.
