Ok, Im a newbie to the adkins diet. I have heard things about it,but not sure what to believe. I basically just want to keep doing the induction phase, I am at 235lbs and would like to lose 100lbs as fast a possible. Is this how it works?

you can have all the meats, cheese, and eggs that you want to?
    20carbs per day
64oz of water plus an extra glass for every 25lbs you would like to lose?
    certain veggies
    exercise
    no breads,pastas,sugars
    diet drinks

Someone please help, could you lay out a plan for me please? can't get the book right now.

Hi welcome to our ADBB family!

It looks as if you have got the bare bones of it, but (as you probably know) you do need to read the book to start to understand how Atkins works! If budget is what is holding you back you might find a cheap copy in a charity shop (goodwill?) or secondhand bookshop or even borrow it from your local library.

We have some good summaries of the rules of induction and the list of allowed foods on our FAQ forum which it might be an idea to copy and save to your computer so you can print it out to have with you for reference till you know the rules by heart. Click on the blue link called 'FAQ' at the top of any page to get to that forum quickly.

Hope this helps and you soon become one of our big losers!!

But Atkins is not really meant to be a 'quick weight loss' diet where you drop vast amounts of weight in a short time then return to whatever eating habits you had before Atkins.

You will lose weight at the speed your body decides, but if you follow the rules you will i am sure achieve goal in time. I lost about 100 pounds in a year and a half, then 35 in another year and a half and have taken about a year to lose my latest 5 pounds!!

Most people find they lose fairly quickly at first but slow down as they progress. Dr Atkins told us to lose our last 5-10 pounds very slowly (over several months) while we learn how to eat once we arrive at goal.

I am glad you decided to join us in our Atkins journeys and look forward to hearing about your successes over the next couple of years as you progress through the 4 stages of Atkins.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

      Re: Newbie Help

      Hi, Tammy!

I sure hope you find a copy of the book either at a local thrift store, or order a copy on line at the used book companies. I sure hope you'll take the advice of some wonderful folks here like Elizellen.

With this way of eating, it's a way of eating for life to teach your body how to break down the barriers of over eating and learn how to replace foods back in your body that work to make it the best it can be. Don't forget a good multivitmain that you need, as well, since your body will be needing them as you go.

      Best wishes on your journey!

Ok you cant have everything on this list as whatever you want foods. Im no pro but let me see if I can help besides the induction forum itseelf. You can have 3-4 ounces of cheese a day. Not the soft cheeses like cottage cheese etc. This should depend on whether you continue to lose weight while including them into your diet. You can have as much meat as needed to get satisfied....not stuffed. You should keep your carb count blow 20. Remember that number is net carbs not total carbs. For net carbs you subtract the grams of fiber from the grams of carbs. The water amount you have there looks pretty good. Exercise is also another important part of this WOE. I will post a link from this little card in another forum and you can print it out for the induction foods.

        Some Induction Rules
        Acceptable Foods

These both were found in the Atkins FAQ forum. have a great day and Good luck in the New Year!!
