  • I Am Crabby :)

    Hello Everyone!

I am new to Atkins! I was introduced to this by my friend Sher801 and I have decided to give it a try.

Though I am not new to healthy eating habits, I have to admit I am having a hard time not eating my complex carbs (plain oatmeal, fruits etc). I run between 4 to 5 miles a day / 5 days a week. My day generally starts at 3:45am and ends somewhere between 10 and 11pm. I am proud sigle mommy of 3 so as you can imagine I need all of the energy I can get.

Thing is...this morning after I ran my 4 miles I began to shake very very very badly - I was trying hard no to cheat but I ran to the fridge and drank my 8oz of skim milk and that seemed to do the trick..

Another thing I am having problems with is my sugar depency - I will be ok and then all of the sudden in crackhead mode I will crave for a hersheys kiss and my poor friend Sher801 has to hit me over the head so that I dont cheat...

Question is.... am I the only one going through this? oh and did I forget to mention that I am extremely crabby? lol

    Thanks for letting me vent

    I will hold on!

No, you are not the only one going through this...just about everyone goes through some sort of "Induction Flu" stage. I get crabby also while my body tries to adjust to not having carbs. Also, the cravings are heightened when you cant have certain things...lets you know just how addicted to all that sugar/carbs we really are. Isn't it terrible!!

Once your body adjusts, you will be o.k. and the cravings, desire for sweets, etc... will subside.

      Re: I Am Crabby

You are perfectly normal! It is the induction phase and from what I can tell the first few days are the hardest. You will get through it and feel soooo much better without all of the junk carbs/sugar you are craving now.

What I did for the shakes is eat a high fat/protien snack. Try deviled eggs (make these up ahead of time) or just boiled eggs, with some real mayo. Ham and cream cheese. Cream cheese and pepperoni...something like that will tide you over. Also try to eat a fat with your veggie carbs/protien to help stabalize your blood sugar. That should help.

As for the crabby....I had the same thing, I thought of it as feeling sorry for myself, and basically addiction withdrawl. But belive me - it is SOOOOO worth it!! You will feel 100% better in a few short days!

As for the sugar cravings....this is the time to kill those - it is a very good idea during induction. If you HAVE to have something and risk going off plan, check out the dessert section for recipes. Clouds are really good, I like to add a little Hersheys unsweetened cocoa power to mine and I call it chocolate cheesecake. I limit myself to just a few teaspoons of this.

      Good Luck!!

I am crabby too. I am on the fifth day of induction and I am starting to feel a little better, but still very moody. On the first day without sugar I was sitting on my couch crying. How pathetic is that? I have also felt very shaky and have not worked out for the past few days until I feel more like myself. Good luck. HOpe it gets better for you.

I was so crabby the first few days of induction. Then on day 4 I got my period, can you say extra crabby? But now all is good, I am in a great mood. In fact my mood has seemed to stabalize. Hang in there, this too shall pass.

I've been quite crabby too. Thought maybe it was because I feel like I'm being punished. I can't eat, I quit smoking before Thanksgiving, what else is left? Sounds like I'm feeling sorry for myself. I am!! Just on day 3 of induction and I'm struggling to be good. the forums help. thanks you all for venting.

Thanks, Tracie. It's been hard but I had the ear thing done and it really helped me quit that day. Now I don't smoke because I don't want to dissapoint my hubby and kids. Cocobelle, Scampi does sound good. I can eat but just not the "junk" that got me to this size. I think it's mostly in my head. I'm not hungry right now and can't stop thinking about food. Guess that's why I'm crabby! Need to pick up my cross stitch or clean house I guess. Thanks for the help. Chubby

Good idea - distract yourself! Eating is such a habbit! Once you break the cycle of eating/thinking about food when you are bored it will be so much easier. It helps that we can eat, rich and filling foods to keep us full. Be sure that when you are hungry you eat until you are satisfied.

Prepare lots of yummy highfat legal snacks so if you feel you 'need' carbs you can have a legal snack instead.

If you feed your body 'a little something' within the way of eating you have chosen you will be teaching it that you are in control and will choose what food to eat, not allow a craving to rule your way of eating.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
