  • What am I doing wrong?

    I'm on day 6 of Atkins and I have 2 problems. First, I feel just awful. I've had a nonstop headache, low energy, low mood, easily irritable, bad breath, and this funky tingling sensation through my whole body. I assumed this was just my body withdrawing from carbs or getting into ketosis or whatever, but, problem #2, I have not lost any weight. I know it hasn't even been a week, but not even half a pound.

    Have any of you experienced anything like this? (I know the book mentions bad breath and short-term headache, but not accompanying a lack of weight loss). Is this a sign I'm doing something wrong? Any suggestions?

    For what it's worth, I'm 174 pounds with a goal weight of 140, so I wasn't expecting 20 pounds in 2 weeks or anything. But I'm really getting frustrated and thought I'd check here to see if anyone had any input? Thanks so much.

    Hi Sherrie273,
    You are doing wonderfully, because all of your symptons are pointing to your body switching over to fat-burning mode. make sure you drink lots of water for your headache or even take something for that to get you through.
    I think it's too early to worry about your scale at this time, truly. Generally on induction you can expect to lose 5-10% of the weight you want to lose. That would work out at 1.7-3.5 lbs for you as a guide.
    Please don't get frustrated, Atkins is wonderful and it does work, everyone loses at different rates and there are also many reasons like sodium, water intake or lack thereof, TOM & more for the scale to not be your friend also. Hang in there! The day your headaches and irritablilty quit, you won't believe just how good you feel !!

      Post a menu in the review my menu forum and then we can tell you if there is any problem with your menu, but I wouldnt worry just yet.

          Thanks for the reassurance. I did post in the "my menu" forum. But I probably just need to stick it out for a little longer. I'm glad to hear that it's somewhat normal and should get better.

            Sherrie: It gets better !!! are you exercising? If so, perhaps you might be losing some inches and the weight is slow to show on the scale.

            Don't give up just keep pressing on... you are doing good !! (your body is just in shocked from your new lifestyle- it'll get with the program momentarily).
