    Re: alcohol?

So sorry you had a bad day. How about going out side and scream a little? Or better yet, go for a run. Sweat and tears are great release, as well as endorphin inducers

Think of taking in the alcohol this way....you body burns the alcohol before it burns anything else. Hang in there!!

Vendors? Special Orders?? Hmmm sounds like you work at the same place I do!!?? Lowes?! Anywho...The first time I was on Atkins I had one of those days so my fiance and I went out to play pool and I had a couple of Michelob Ultras...big nono I know ( i was still on induction ) but to my surprise when I weighed the next day I lost 2lbs. Now im not sayin go right ahead but sometimes we just need a breather...or a drink!

I also don't want to condone "bad behavior", but I have had a couple Michelob Ultras also...I just make sure I have a glass of water in between. My biggest downfall with alcohol is that it makes me want to eat everything...so I make sure I limit myself to 2 or 3.

            Re: alcohol?

I don't wanna come in here and rain on everyone's parade...but, alcohol in any form isn't allowed until the appropriate time during the Ongoing Weight Loss Phase. AND in one of the later books, Dr. A took it out of that phase as well.

When you drink alcohol, your body will ONLY burn alcohol as long as it's in your bloodstream. Anything you eat will not be used (and if it's not used, it gets stored as fat I believe).

It all boils down to which you want more....a drink or to stick to the plan and create the momentum that you'll need to successfully lose the weight?

Also, it was in the book that if you crave alcohol or something sweet, try 1 oz of cream cheese with splenda sprinkled on top (they now have the flavored splenda). The heaviness of the cream cheese helps with the craving...

Well, I guess that was a "spanking" I probably needed. I am going to try and stay away from alcohol until I am down to my goal weight...after that, I can't make any promises

                    Re: alcohol?

LOL Chicago, in maintenance we get a lot more options. In OWL we get lots more options, but all in due time.

Dr. A didn't put alcohol, nuts, berries, fruits, whole grains on the induction acceptable food list for a reason. We get it all back eventually...so just be patient, lose the weight and get it back when we've got our appetite and addictions all under control.

                        Re: alcohol?

i needed to read this tonight. i'm going to a party tomorrow night (if i can shake this freakin' headache) and am feeling kind of shaky about it. lots of drinking...lots of non atkins induction friendly foods...lots of pressure to join in and have fun...and i'm the same way with alcohol as chicagogirl...once the alcohol is in my system, my food choices go downhill. when i hit a tight spot and am unsure i can control the cravings or the compulsion, i think of an old school weight watchers saying..."nothing tastes as good as thin feels." anyway, thanks for the comments. this will help me stay on track!

Nope, didn't think you were a lush at all. It's the vises that we use to comfort these bad days that makes a difference on our journey to taking care of our bodies.

We all have bad days, and I think you won this one with the bad days of all bad days. Just think, it can only get better. When we get down to the bottom, all we have to do is look up!

Best wishes taking care of you.
