  • Induction HELP!!!

    Hello All,

    I'm on Day 8 and believe I am in ketosis, I have a sweet taste and almost a slight iorn taste in my mouth. I took the test strip test and last night I was light purple (moderate) and this morning light beige (trace).

    I need to know two things:

    1) Do the test strips read like this when your in ketosis or should it always be more to the purple?

    2) Do we count sugars and carbs on the labels or just the carbs?

    Reason for question #2 is that I ate chicken (Purdue Shortcuts) this morning with eggs and realized it had 1g sugars. This was from my old stock in the freezer but I figured it had low carb 2g per 1/2 cup serving so I would use it.

    Did this hurt my induction?

    Hi, Keepin. The color of the test strips will vary, but as long as you show SOME indication (any color change at all) of ketosis, you're okay.

    As for the label, you only count the carbs, not the sugars. However, if something has sugar or corn syrup in the ingredients, you should stay away from it, even if it is low carb. My guess is that the Perdue shortcuts probably do probably have some sugar or corn syrup. But, since the carb count is relatively low, I seriously doubt you did any damage. Just watch the ingredients in the future.

    Just for info, the reason you don't "count" the sugars is that there are natural sugars in a lot of things we CAN have (especially as you move up the rungs). But, keeping an eye on the sugar grams is still a good idea -- if the number is above 1 or 2, it's a good, quick red flag to look deeper (at the ingredients) for evil sugar or corn syrup...

      Thank you for your help and support. I am about to have lunch and seen 3g carbs and 1g of sugar on the label for some canned mushrooms I am putting in my salad and thought OH NO!!! Then came online to see if I had a reply to this question. You saved my lunch! Thanks.
