How do you know your in ketosis if you don't want to buy the strips?

The first sign I always have is that looking at the clock and realizing it has been 5+ hours since my last feeding and I hadn't even noticed
- I can also usually tell by the slightly odd taste in my mouth. I drink LOTS of water and brush my teeth alot, so that isn't really the most obvious one for me but the appetite suppression sure is. You might notice a distinct "aroma" when working out as well! I am sure some others will pop in here with their own signs! Best of luck!!

Here's another question about ketosis....
what can I do for this horrible dragon breath? I used to chew sf gum and mints but according to the induction rules, I can't....
Anyone have any suggestions? I am starting a new job on Tuesday and do not want to be breathing my dragon breath on my new boss!
Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels!

It really depends - but I would say that anywhere from 2-4 days is pretty typical if you are following induction rules.

If you are only eating the foods allowed on induction and 4 days have passed you are in ketosis.

My question would be: Why don't you want to buy the strips? I know that at around $15.00 per canister, it's not exactly cheap, but it's soooo worth it! Plus, one canister lasts a loooooooooooooong time. You can find them at Walgreens easily.
The strips are also very helpful in determining when I have eaten something that affects my ketosis--and that's very helpful to know. When you're feeling unmotivated, it's so nice to have a deep purple result push you onward. Ketosis rocks, and you'll love using them. Please reconsider getting the strips for yourself. Any change in eating (i.e., "going on a diet") needs to have motivational things pushing you along the way--this is one great one for Atkin's eaters. Everytime I see that I know I'm running on pure fat stores instead of the food I'm eating and it encourages me to keep it up!Felicia
