  • Help - please tell me weight gain is TOM

Hi, all! I searched the Board for info on "TOM" (with its various labels) to no avail so I am posting.

I just finished my two first weeks of induction - happy with results - and have decided to continue induction for two additional weeks because I had a slow down last week. Today I am UP two pounds and I am not happy at all - I have done nothing at all to cause this...except that this week TOM is on his way.

PLEASE tell me that can attribute to a "gain" which really isn't.

By the way, I know many of you do not weigh often, but I do as it motivates the heck out of me to see that scale moving .5 per day.

Thanks in advance for any input!

I weigh often.... I go up a little from water weight the week before TOM. It drops back down once I have it.. then again, for everyone it's different, some people don't drop down 'til they're done with TOM but will lose an extra pound or something like that...

Thanks, Lyssie ~ I feel very much more calm after reading your reply! LOL I would be devastated if all my hard work had backfired some.

Did you take your measurements when you started?? Sometimes you still see inches even *while* retaining water... it's really a great tool...

I gain usually anywhere from 5 - 8 lbs of water weight the week before tom. I find avoiding salty foods, exercising and drinking lots of water keeps it lower rather than higher.

Sadie - thanks for the input! I feel much more at ease now. (Although I do have some major PMS! ) I did do more exercise tonight and just finished another 16 ounces of H2O. Since I am really watching what I eat, I can't think of any excess salt intake...but it's a good point.

Lyssie - I did take my measurements at the start. I'll have to check what's going on now.

            Thanks, ladies!

              Hi PinkRibbon
There are oodles of discussions about TOM but most are on the Atkins for Women forum (to spare our ADBB men's blushes ) so didnt show when you searched as you are not yet a member of that forum.
To access these you need to apply to join the forum - easily done by clicking on the 'User CP' link then on the 'Group Memberships' link then clicking on the 'Join Group' link by the forum's name.
But you do need to add to your signature an indication of your gender before applying to join the forum.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
