  • Question regarding loss

I hope someone here can help me. I have been doing induction since the 8th of January. (When I did Adkins before I could never really add anymore carbs without being kicked out of ketosis). I am joined the gym and am doing cardio 20-30 minutes 3 times a week and weight training 3 times a week. The strips are telling me I am in moderate ketosis. However, I have only lost 8 pounds. Now this time I am over 40 and last time I was not as heavy to begin with but I am beginning to get discouraged. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Couple of things:

Did you measure yourself when you began? The scale is deceptive because it cannot distinguish fat-weight from muscle-weight or water-weight. The water-weight thing is of concern to women (because we have monthly hormonal changes from which we can temporarily 'gain' weight through water retention). Of concern to both men and women is that if you begin exercising or change your exercise routine, sometimes your muscles will retain water or 'super-hydrate'. That water retention goes away too in time.

Ketostix: Here are links about those things:

The ketostix color doesn't determine how much weight you will lose or can lose. All the ketostix tell you is the amount of excess ketones you have. We can use ketones as a energy source, so some of us are in lipolysis, lose weight, and never register on the ketostix because we don't have excess ketones in our bodies.

By definition, a ketogenic diet (one that produces ketones) is a diet that consists of 100 grams or less carbohydrate. So unless you were eating above 100 grams of carbs, you would still be in ketosis.
