  • Question..

I'm really new to this whole thing and I was wondering a couple of things..
I noticed that you shouldn't drink anything sweetened with aspertame.. I have a lemonade drink mix that's sweetened with it.. should I just get rid of it? It says it has no carbs.
Also, what about sugar-free trident gum?
One more, I looked at some of the foods you can eat while on atkins, but I never noticed chicken. Is chicken okay to eat while on this diet?

    Thanks.

    Thanks.
Chicken is listed on the Induction Acceptable Foods list in the book. It's under the heading "all fowl including: chicken, turkey, duck, goose, cornish hens, quail, pheasant".

Make sure you are looking at the correct foods list. There is ALOT of misinformation about Atkins on the web and in magazines. So be sure to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition and follow that.

Aspartame: Dr. Atkins noticed that aspartame can stop or slow weight loss in some folks, especially if it was taken in 'excessive amounts'. In the 1992 edition of the book, he defined 'excessive' as 3 or more servings daily. So, aspartame is discouraged on Atkins.

Sugar-free gums tend to contain sugar alcohols. If you do a search on this forum for 'sugar alcohols' you will find a number of threads about them.

The bottomline is that for Atkins, you can't have more than 3 servings of artificial sweeteners per day.

I would not drink that drink. Better to avoid all sweet for a while...

        Okay, thanks guys.

So is there anything I can drink besides water?

I've tried finding some books, but no luck. I live in a small town and the nearest book store is a good hour away.

Do you have any charity shops in your town?
In UK most of them have at least one copy of DANDR for under a pound!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
