  • induction flu . dry mouth

    Hi everyone,

Im only on day three and its been like hitting a brick wall.

My mouth is so dry im drinking two litres of water, im waking up with a dry mouth..

monday night i was awake on and off all night and last night too. I feel shattered,, my legs are like lead weights and my cravings ar emaking me want to cry .

Is this my version of withdrawal from sugar, because if it is i really didnt think i was that 'addicted'..i feel really down,,

I dont think not having a regular cycle helps me, i had pcos once but was giventhe all clear but my periods are prob every six to 8 weeks, not had one since dec 13th,,and i dont think thats helping..

    any advice anyonexx

    Comfy,
Just try to hang in there. Make sure you pick up some vitamins too, that may help with some. I think we all felt that way in the beginning to some extent, rest assured it shouldn't last long!

I'm sure it won't be long before a more experienced boardie comes along and can offer better advice.

Keep your eyes on the prize!

      Hei,
actually you're through the hardest part already IMHO. The first 2-3 days are always the worst as this is when your body stops burning insulin and starts burning fat for energy. Sugar withdrawal is quite possible, too. Have you quit caffeine also? I was dying because of caffeine withdrawal for a week or so!
Drink even more water (2 litres is like a MINIMUM) and take it easy, have more rest etc. Don't give up, it'll pass really soon! I know it may be hard to believe but it will, you'll see.

Try a humidifier when sleeping. Or if you don't have one, put a pot of water on your heating source and get some moisture into the air. Winter home heating has a way of drying the air and giving us that dry mouth.

You've gotten good advice. You might want to post your menu in the "REview My Menu" section. Sometimes people make the mistake of eating as close to 0 carbs as possible. This is unnecessary and if you were a big carb eater before Atkins, you can reall shock your body eating that low. Shoot for at least 10-15 net carbs daily and your flu symptoms should decrease a bit.

HI girls thanks a lot, feel better to night,,still craving chocolate like crazy..

My carbs are pretty good ive been having cups of salald and or veg, but my diet was mainly carb based, cup of tea two sugars and toast for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, and for tea id have probably somesort of processed ready meal and veg, but i would have choc if i needed it some days none some days two bars, sometimes i wold have to have cake, not big on biscuits, but i loved choc and cake and oven chips. but my body has slown down so much may arms became heavy today and i feel like im walking through mud, but hopefully it will lift soon.

            xxhugs and thanksxx

              Hi
I'm on day 3 of induction and have also been suffering from a dry mouth and heavy tired legs. Another thing i've noticed today is slight light headedness.
I was a complete coca cola addict until I started Atkins on Monday I could easily drink 2 litres of coke in a day so I guess my body is trying to come to terms with the lack of sugar and caffeine.

I'm pleased to say I've not yet had a craving for coke!

Re: induction flu . dry mouth

Please try to stick with it. I promise you that the cravings will go away. I am on Day Five on induction and I am only now starting to feel better. (Yes, I have been through this drill before) You will come out feeling better than you ever have in your life.

I get induction flu badly. I get severe headaches and general flu like symptoms, tired and achy. I treat it as I would the flu. Lots of water and rest.

Hang in there. You can totally do this. Keep posting and posting.

                    Hi comfyinskin

Think my mouth dryness has started to go a bit, not got the tired heavy legs or lightheadedness now either
Luckily I've not had any cravings so far, not even for coke...which has really surprised me! I do have a horrible tinny taste in my mouth now though...but that's a good sign so I'll put up with it!

Hang in there, it will pass. I was just on the board a few days ago talking about how this was the pits. Today I woke up and felt a lot better (on my 6th day), sometimes we dont realize how addicted we are to the sugar. I knew I was after all I was eating snickers bars at 10pm!! OMG I know!! But just know that in a few days it will be better and you will feel so good for sticking it out. good luck to you. Oh by the way Advil is your friend! I take it when I feel too tired and get the headaches.

We are very similar. I started at 182.5! And would like to go to 130-135. Hopefully by August. In time for our yearly vacation. We took a cruise last year and I hated all the pics. I know you can do it. Just remember many people have done it, why not you or I?

Fever and chills aren't symptoms of the "Induction flu". You are probably having a "real" flu, so it's a good thing that you went to see your doctor.
