    Hello Everyone,



    I'm so excited that this site exists. I have done Atkins years ago only to fall off the wagon. I do know that this diet can be successful. The problem I’m having is that I really don't have an appetite, according to my BMR I should intake at least 3000 calories ( if I’m understanding this correctly.) I've had an Advantage shake this morning and hot wings for a snack. I'm about to go and make myself eat a salad or some sort of veggie. B/c I know that when I get home I'm not hungry so I won't eat. Now I do know that I can over carb that’s why I've gained so much weight b/c I was eating out every night. Now if I was eating the regular way (mainly carbs) I would have an appetite. I lost 18 pounds the first time I did the induction in 14 days. The habit of eating late at night also contributed to my weight gain. Any suggestions? I really need to lose this weight and I want to do Atkins.

    Hey There Rescue!

    I'm so glad you have decided to embrass this WOL again!

    It sounds like you are asking all the right questions. IMO, I don't think you should try and eat 3000 calories. Dr. A says that you should eat untill you aren't hungry, not stuffed. The high protein content in your new foods is going to supress your appetite, but it's important to get those 3 cups of veggies in and give your body the 20 carbs it needs as fuel to burn fat.

    My BMR says I should be eating 2500 a day, but I usually only intake 1300 calories a day on average. I usually have atleast 15 carbs and overall my diet consists of roughly 65% fat, 30%protein and 5% carbs, which is what Dr. A recommends.

    Also, be sure and take some supplements as recommended in DANDR. I take a multi vitamin, potassium, calcium and flax seed tablets.

    I also had issues with lack of appetite but (believe me!) it's important to eat every 4 hours. Your body needs fuel!

    Also, push the water. It's a necessary component to your weight loss. I try to drink over 100oz every day. Exercise is also another big step toward that goal and health!

      Ummm.. I get your BMR should be about 2195... so I'm assuming that for the 3000 calories to *maintain* your weight, you exercise about 2 times/week... Then we drop that by like 20% as a starting point for a caloric goal your body would still lose weight at, so we have like... 2400 calories... this is not a static number and is just a starting point, you could go less and be fine....

      I would say to drop the shake for breakfast. 1. they can cause people to stall or not go into ketosis, 2. natural foods are better for you, and 3. if you're looking to increase calories, they're really going to hinder you for that. When I'm in a hurry and out the door with no time to spare, sometimes I nuke a couple hot dogs (180cal/each), or some bacon or sausage... It gets metabolism going and some calories in.

      Hot wings as a snack... so those are about 220 cal/4wings... are you eating them with some blue cheese dressing?? This'll give you more calories for that.

      Your salad - try some oil and vinegar dressing, put an egg, some bacon, or cheese on top. If it's a veggie, add some butter.

      Just as long as you make sure that you eat every 6 hours, it's not so important when you put your calories in, so if you eat like, just a snack for dinner or whatever because you're not hungry, that's ok to do!!

        I did my check to, they said I should be consuming around 1600calories or something like that. I know I don't eat that much, but I do remember reading he said eat until you are satisfied don't stuff yourself, and of course don't deprive yourself.

          Thanks for the advice, I bought a chicken salad with sour cream that was delicious. I love water so I have no problem w/ that. Just worried that I'm not eating enough.

            An extreme of calories/food in either direction will hinder your success on Atkins. You can eat too little to lose weight. You can also eat too much to lose weight. What you're striving for is three balanced meals of carbs / fats / proteins per day. Are you getting enough veggies? Maybe you could post a sample menu for a day or two.

              ummm.. I eat 5-6 meals a day... but they're like, 300 calories each...

                Yesterday,

                Breakfast: I had an Advantage Shake, Omlet with cheese, tomatos and green onions, 3 slices of bacon.
                Lunch: I had a salad with broiled chicken and tuna 1 cups of Lettuce 1 cup of spinach. (ranch dressing)
                Dinner: 15 Hot wings and celery sticks.

                Today

                Advantage Shake
                Hot wings (5) Blue cheese dressing
                Chicken Salad with lettuce tomato, cheddar cheese and sour cream.

                I was thinking for dinner. having 2 cups of Broccoli with butter and cheese and a grilled chicken breast.

                I do drink about a gallon of water daily that goes w/o question for me b/c I love water.


                I do have a quick question.....
                Can I fry chicken with skin w/ wheat flour? I will be buying another book today but if someone could answer that I would be grateful.

                    Nope, no flour at all - I think you can introduce that in the grain rung, but for now it's off limits.

                      Oh Lyssie, I did word that wrong. What I meant to say was that your meals should be balanced...with carbs spread throughout rather than all at one meal. I was afraid she might be filling up on meat and then not having room for veggies.

                      Rescueme - But it looks to me like you are getting the proper amount of veggies. Are you hungry when you eat?

                        No, I'm not hungry when I eat, I could go hours w/o eating but I'm not suppose to. Honestly I'm not a big eater. I am an emotional eater. This morning I did the omelet again with bacon. Before Atkins I ate most of my meals around 9:00pm only to go to bed about 11:00. An example of a 9:00 meal is Chicken Alfredo.

                        Also, I'm at a point where I'm just tired of food. I'm so disgusted w/ my weight. I'm going to take it a day at a time. This site really provides motivation.
