  • I don't understand eggs

    They are included in the foods you can eat liberally, but actually have .6 carbs each. I assume those carbs count against my 20 for the day? Or are eggs free carbs?

    Thanks in advance to anyone for clearing this up for me.




    The Nutshell: I'm a 43 yr old grrrrl, 5'4". Married to the best guy I've ever met (besides my Dad), with one very active toddler and I run my own pet sitting business.

    I lost 4.8 lbs before Atkins. I started Atkins 2/10/07 and have lost 11.2 lbs so far.

    Anything less than 1 carb should be counted as 1 carb. Including Eggs.

      Yes, that is right - you have to count the carbs in the eggs in your 20 for the day. The veggies will contribute the most to your carb count, but with the 3 cup limit, it is not like you will get to 20 with just veggies - so you have "room" to fit in eggs, cheese, cream or some of the other allowable induction foods. Hope this makes sense and helps some. There aren't really any "free carbs" that don't count.

        The carbs have to be counted but there is no reason to count one egg as 1 carb, You can use the actual carb count. Lots of people count one carb when food that we know contains carbs claims to be zero. Then to be more accurate count one carb instead of zero carbs.
