Re: still craving choc and cake on day 12

I too crave chocolate! I have always been a sweets person. I just made a quick trip to the kitchen for a sweetened with splenda sweet pickle. It helps and with only 1g carb, I only have to eat one or two to be ok. This morning I took a couple bites of the Atkins Advantage Morning Chocolate Chip Crisp Bar. It says on the package that it is appropriate for induction (phase 1), but it has 15g carbs??? I don't know or understand how this can be ok, but I had only two bites and my craving went away. I was afraid to eat more. Ask someone here with more experience first though, I would hate to guide you wrong. I'm new. It didn't taste bad, but you can taste the soy.

About the L-Glutamine , just make sure you don't have any liver or kidney problems Before you take it. I take it, but there is a warning on the back of the bottle about that.

5lbs is WONDERFUL!!! You should be proud! Ok... you fell and ate the bounty, now get back up and keep your eye on the prize! You can do it, and don't feel guilt any more. I'm sure you have put yourself through enough already. Now it is not even worth the negative feelings because you can just focus on the positive and how strong your going to be next month! Get excited that you have just learned a lesson and do your best! Best of luck!

So make smaller amounts. I made a four bite serving of that in a little bowl last night with 3/4 of a splenda.

One of the best things I ever found for cravings is high fat snacks. My personal favorite is deviled eggs.

The other thing is to trick my mind into forgetting about the food. When I start thinking about craving a food, then I have to train my mind to think about something else instead. One easy way to do this is to immediately involve myself in an activity where eating is impossible. Sitting around thinking about the temptation is only going to increase the likelihood of caving in. This diet is about controlling blood sugar levels but it is also about controlling your mind.

The problem with chocolate is that it is as addictive as coffee or tea. If you can manage to get through induction without it, you will find your cravings gone for good. There are several "desserts" that are induction friendly that will take the edge off that sweet craving but it's best to just get that chocolate monkey off your back. Believe me, I know, I am the worlds biggest chocolate addict. )

              You might enjoy this recipe:

It makes just two servings(can freeze the other serving) and it really does satisfy.

Hang in there, I know exactly how you feel.

I'm a major chocoholic too and the Easter candy on everyone's desk at work has been screaming at me.

I agree with the suggestion about cutting out even the diet sodas and jello for now. I really believe that for some people the sweeteners can worsen the cravings.

And if you just have have have to have some chocolate, take the recipe for the cream cheese and cocoa but just mix 1 ounce of cream cheese. No chance of overdoing and eating the whole thing if you make the whole recipe.

Good luck.. you can do this.

Maggie.. that recipe looks great but the almond flour isn't for induction.

You need to check the INGREDIENTS for any product you are thinking of eating to make sure all of them are on the allowed list for the stage of Atkins you are following.
Here are the ingredients for that bar
INGREDIENTS:SOY NUGGETS (ISOLATED SOY PROTEIN, TAPIOCA STARCH, SALT), GLYCERINE, DRY ROASTED SOYBEANS, PROTEIN BLEND [HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN, WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE (MILK)], CHOCOLATE CHIPS (LACTITOL, CHOCOLATE LIQUOR, COCOA BUTTER, SOY LECITHIN, VANILLA EXTRACT, ACESULFAME POTASSIUM), POLYDEXTROSE, DEHYDRATED COCONUT (SODIUM METABISULFITE), PALM KERNEL AND PALM OIL, SUNFLOWER OIL, MALTITOL, COCOA POWDER (PROCESSED WITH ALKALI), CELLULOSE, DICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, SOY LECITHIN, SUCRALOSE, ACESULFAME POTASSIUM. NUTRITION BLEND: VITAMIN A PALMITATE, ASCORBIC ACID, NIACINAMIDE, RIBOFLAVIN, THIAMINE MONONITRATE, FOLIC ACID, ALPHA TOCOPHERYL ACETATE.
So they are not 'legal' till you reach the OWL legumes rung/level.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: still craving choc and cake on day 12

Elizellen, Thank you so much! I feel bad for telling her to consider it after asking for others advice first, but the package said it was ok. I did question at the time because of the number of carbs, and I do count daily, which is why I only took two bites. I wont eat anymore! I wonder why it is labeled incorrectly. This is what the package says exactly:

"Counting carbs? The Net Atkins Count (TM), the only count based on the most advanced clinical testing of glycemic impact, shows on average just 2g of the carbs in this product impact blood sugar. PATENT PENDING: 10/229,952" ____"Note: For those following the Atkins Nutritional Approach (TM), this product is appropriate for induction (phase 1)."

This can be confusing for us beginners. Anyway, sorry for the advice.

                      Heidi

Heidi, I agree... that is very misleading. They only want to sell bars now - they don't seem as concerned with Dr. Atkins real program.

I actually just realized that this wasn't the Main Atkins forum! Sorry for giving the url to that recipe on the induction forum. It is a good recipe for owl and a reason to get to that phase of the diet asap!

Yeah... green tea works for me and sugar cravings.

Chocolate is actually somewhat addictive since the methylbromine is a bit like love in chemical form.

Once you're past induction you can add it back into your life with splenda ...

                              Just stick to it.....

For some reason my biggest craving is my morning decafe latte which I still can't have :-/
