  • Hi I'm a newbie to Atkins

Hi everyone i'm a newbie to atkins.
i've tried most other diets and have failed...Atkins has really given me new hope.
But i'm just a bit uncomfortable with the high fat content! i still feel guilty to eat scrambled eggs or bacons when i'm going on a diet!

i've read many of the success stories in this forum...but i just need a little bit more reassurance...is it absolutely OK for me to eat butter/eggs/bacons?

I've also read about ppl actually having LESS weight loss if they don't have an enough fat intake...is it true?

i've been in induction for 3 days...so far i'm doing OK. the craving isn't too bad.

    My diet
Breakfast: 4oz steak (fried) with 2 scrambled eggs
Lunch: Fried chicken breast (8oz), 1 tablespoon of cream cheese
Snack: a can of spicy tuna fish
Dinner: Fried fish fillet, a cup of lettuce

Is the food OK? Can I have prawns?
how about Kraft cream cheese spread...is it ok for induction?

    Thanks a lot

Hello and welcome to the boards, I was concerned with the amount of eggs too, I sometimes eat 4 per day 2 for breakfast and 2 in things like egg salad or tuna. The amount of fat will decrease as you go thru ongoing weight loss *** you continute to add more foods.

Looks like you are doing good to me.

      Hi welcome to Atkins

I'm fairly new to this too...this is day 13 of induction for me
You menu looks OK but you could do with adding more veg...you are supposed to have 2 cups from the salad veg list and 1 cup from the other veg list.
Perhaps you could try adding some salad with dressing to your lunch and a cup of veg with your dinner. Also your fat levels look a little low to me.

Go to www.fitday.com and get a free account there...then you can put in all your food and it gives you the fat/carb/protein levels. You are looking to have a ratio of 65% fat/ 5% carbs /30% protein, with a total of not more than 20g of carbs daily. Try not to go above 30% protein in a day as excess protein turns to sugar in our bodies. Play around with the levels...if your protein looks to high add some fat...be it butter, mayo etc...sometimes it doesn't take much fat to change your ratios!

As to the Kraft cream cheese...the honest answer is I don't know!! Hopefully someone a bit more expert than me will come on and answer that one for you!

Good luck...keep us posted with your progress

If it is just regular cream cheese, it is legal. Just make sure you don't exceed your daily allowance of 3-4 oz. If it is a processed cheese spread, it is not allowed. Processed spreads contain fillers, sugars, and starches. If it's NOT on the induction list, don't eat it! Here is a list of the induction foods:

Frequently Asked Questions about the board, the Atkins Diet and low carbing in general. Moderator only posts.

Check out the stickies about induction--they're packed with information that is neccessary for your journey. Also, pick up a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 ed.) if you haven't done so already. It explains the science of the diet and each of the phases in great detail.

Hey there! I know THAT "low fat" freak out! The fats are actually the part of atkins that are hardest to accept and truthful are what makes this diet work...I hope you have the book: Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution. The Metabolic Advantage chapter will explain all the research on different percentages of fats used in diets and how the highest fats, with controlled carbs, actually brought abou the most weight loss.
Fats also create such a satisfying feeling, after you get over the "head trip"...
I eat 2 eggs and 3 slices of bacon every day about. I use alot of mayo. I feel great, am rarely ever hungry and enjoy such agreat stuff including shrimp dipped in hot butter or mayo...delish!
It works, and I would really encourage you spending some time reading in depth, and shortly your body will give you the confidence and understanding you are looking for.

              Hi Pinkmania!
First of all welcome aboard !
Indeed it is so weird to have to fight that 'lowfatfadmonster; we've been told so often that low fat is what we have to do, it does take some adjusting to get used to that.
I wanted to chime in with Nixgirl on the veggie department, you really need to eat 3 cups a day, either 3 cups salads or 2 cups salads and 1 cup of the 'otherveggie'-list.
              Happy losing !!!
