  • Quick ways to ADD FAT'?

    I've been reading EVERYWHERE the 65/ 30/ 5 rule. My meals for the last 6 days have been : DAY 1, 58% fat 40% protein 3% carbs. DAY 2, 57% F/ 41% P /2% C. DAY 3, 60% F/ 37% P/ 3% carbs. DAY 4, 51% F/ 47% P/ 2% carbs. DAY 5, 57% F/ 41% P/2% carbs. AND just starting day 6, 59% F/ 38% P/ 3% carbs. I think i've lost 4 MAYBE 5 pounds however I'm NEVER getting to 65% fat i don't know what to use that could bring up the fat count? I'm using mayo and bacon cooking in oil using butter. What else could i do to bring up the FAT?. Also i'm keeping my carbs at or under 10 NOT 20 because I know my body does better with more restriction on carb limit i don't lose on 20 carbs. I know my protein is still too high i'm not sure what to do about that. My roomate say's if i'm losing it's working but I want to be sure I get MAX results. I've got 100 pounds to lose!.

    -goal weight : 140ish-150

    RESTART 4/1/2010 WEIGHT 241 GOAL 150.
    Went totally off atkins now i'm right back where I started in 2007. 75 POUNDS were lost and gained BACK AUGH.

    Actually, it's probably the excess protein causing slower losses. Too much protein converts to glycogen, which ultimately converts to fat in our bodies. I think the issue is NOT that you're eating too little fat--I think you're eating too much meat. Atkins is a high-fat diet.

    You're not metabolically resistant if you've lost 5 pounds...but it depends on when you've started induction. What day did you start? You should not weigh until the 14 days are up, because weight fluctuates wildly from day to day and even from hour to hour.

    And it DOES NOT make you lose more weight to restrict carbs to under 10 grams. You NEED those 3 cups of veggies. The limit is 20g per day, but you should be eating AT LEAST 13 or 14g per day without trying to restrict your intake. And actually, many people find that when they move to Rung 1 of OWL (veggies) their weight loss INCREASES with the added carbs.

    Apart from the things you've listed (mayo, oil, butter) I would say some other ways to increase fat are to make sure you're eating your 3 oz. of full-fat cheese, put a pat of butter on your meats or veggies, use full-fat salad dressing (with 2g or less carbs per serving) on your salads. One pat of butter should equal out percentages...this again leads me to believe you need to keep your fat where it is, and cut back on your protein.

      Hi, I agree with what Julie wrote.
      More vegetables and a little less protein will even it out percentage-wise for you. Try not to stress too much about it during induction, as long as you're eating enough to feel satisfied, ensure you're eating fat, have all of your veggies and make sure you drink lots of water. You'll find after a little while too that your appetite decreases even

        Some ideas for getting more fats is to eat fattier meat like pork or dark meat chicken and be sure to leave the skin on your chicken if it is not breaded.

        Plus you can add some type of healthy oil to your veggies if you cook them.

        Then be sure and use Heavy Whipping Cream instead of milk, creamer or half & half if you have coffee and tea.

          Thanks everyone i am glad you all took the time to reply. The suggestions are helpful. I do not want to cut out more protein because as it is i'm getting a tab under 1200 calories I want to be sure i don't eat too little. I will try to aim for some more veggies i'm just scared of getting to many carbs my body likes to hold junk i have Insulin Resistance with my pcos. I tried met for my pcos in the past it cause horid explosive bowels "very gross". I'm doing the adkins alone with no meds to try TO treat my pcos and insulin reistance. I already feel a TON better and it's only day 7!

            That sounds like you're doing well.
            You've answered your own question just now
            Eat your veggies and cook them with a little olive oil or butter and those percentages which were worrying you will bounce closer to what you were looking for. You're doing great!

              To increase fat I usually put it in my scrambled eggs for more flavor.
