  • Day 7 I think I made a mistake

    I am on day 7 on atkins and was invited over to a friends house for dinner. I had 3 hot wings with blu cheese and carrorts and cellery.

    Well apparantly she added 2 tablespoons of flour to the bowl for a thickener. Did I screw anything up. I am in the purple zone on the keto sticks.

    Cbodeen... don't stress; just carry on with your induction and learn from your little slip up. When eating out, or eating other people's food, it's a good idea to always check what ingredients have been used. It might seem embarrassing to ask, but usually people understand, if you explain why you're asking.

    A bit of flour probably won't sink the boat. But it might slightly alter your "end of two weeks" weight loss stats. These stats are useful as they give an idea of your probable CCLL and your level of metabolic resistance.

    I'd also mention that carrots are not on the induction acceptable food list. You get to add those in later, on rung 8 of OWL (starchy veggies).

    Look to the future and don't worry over what's in the past...

      Yeah I agree, major bummer.....I had a bunch of fresh Asparagus....

      Blanched it, it was cooked thorough and tender yet crisp (shocked it with ice water)

      My son is visiting from California, he said, dad I'll saute it and add some garlic and make it really good.

      It smelled so good.

      Then I said, you did use butter right.

      sigh. No he used Margarine. I was so bummed it looked so good!

      Always ask questions when somebody else is doing the cooking!

      But you'll be fine. Just keep on truckin'.

        I wouldn't worry about it too much either. Not something you want to do all the time, though. I never heard of anyone adding flour to hot wings like that.

          I ordered a salad at Pizza Luce the other night and poured on the oil and vinegar, so did my husband. Just before the first bite, I said, is this balsamic vinegar? Sure enuf it was. Everyone at the table looked at me funny when I said well, we can't eat this now, and ordered two more salads, with red wine vinegar this time. The waiter was really nice about it. Better to spend a few extra bucks then spoil several successful Atkins days, right? Well, I was so proud of myself for not eating the balsamic, and totally enjoyed my new salad, right down to the very last carrot shaving. It didn't occur to me until the next day that Carrots are not induction legal. doh!!!!

          We live and learn!




          The Nutshell: I'm a 43 yr old grrrrl, 5'4". Married to the best guy I've ever met (besides my Dad), with one very active toddler and I run my own pet sitting business.

          I lost 4.8 lbs before Atkins. I started Atkins 2/10/07 and have lost 11.2 lbs so far.

            Just an fyi, margarine will not cause you any issues on this woe, Dr. Atkins just recommended you not use it as it has transfats...Here, many margarines don't have transfats in them at all anymore, and I use them quite often since butter is not always convenient for me (i keep it in the fridge). Next time I would check the type of margarine to see if it's a non-trans fat one, and it would have been fine.
