  • small weight loss goal?

Hi folks - i am new hear. I am on my 7th day of induction - i want to lose only about 10-12 pounds, but mainly did it to help rid (once and for all) a nightmarish carbohydrate addiction that has grown tremendously, along with PMS, following the birth of my 2 kids. I've tried many other remedies and dietary changes to alleviate the cravings/binges which inevitably have lead to a 12 lb gain over the past couple of years - but depressingly, i feel nothing has worked. I decided that eliminating carbs (or atleast most of them) for good is the only way i will ever resolve.

I've seen moderate pink/purple keto-sticks thus far (a week in), but have not really seen any weight loss. Now i know people have said it can go slower when you've got little to lose, but how slow is slow?

I have been following very strictly and barely even have had a salad and have been generous enough with portions and fats. Should i watch the calorie consumtion - 'cause i thought this wasn't really supposed to be a huge deal? I mean i'm certainly not eating a ton, but definately more calories than i'm typically used to - of a different kind?

    Input greatly appreciated.

    Re: small weight loss goal?

Hi and welcome to the boards, I am a slow looser myself, only 11.5 lbs since Jan 9th, everyone looses at a different pace, so dont give up hope. It may just take a little time for your body to adjust to this way of eating. Then all of a sudden you will notice a change.
Did you measure yourself? Because you can loose inches and not lbs. Either way its still a loss. Are you drinking plenty of water?
I am sure more of the great people in here will come along and give you more advice than I can.
Just dont give up hope, and good luck on your jouney!

You need to eat your veggies. Completely cutting out carbs will not help you lose weight. You need to eat those 3 cups each day for fiber, nutrients, and variety.

And since you have only 12 pounds to lose, your losses will probably be quite slow. But if your main reason for following Atkins is to break the cycle of cravings, then that shouldn't be a problem!

After induction, you should move directly into OWL and start re-introducing foods, following the rungs in order. That way you can find out what carbs are good for your body, and which ones cause cravings.

Well thanks. I am getting some carbs - an occasional salad - as per the induction directions. And get those few little ones in chedder cheese, and my decaf coffee creamer (suger free, but = 1 g). I do exercise and drink water all day long. Sooo - i guess we'll see. I take all the supplements and then some to help alleviate PMS related symtpoms. Immediately after my kids, i was on a high - after having both, i actually weighed less and looked better than ever before; a solid 100lbs on my small 5' frame. I am typically a devoted runner too. It has only been in the past year or so that i've noticed many changes in me - now recognizably from my cycle; massive cravings followed by binging and huge fatigue that disrups my run routines largely. It has been very hard for me since i have always been very in control of my food intake (and usually lower on the carbs anyway), will power, and committment to exercise. So, i soooo hope following a more strict level of carb restriction will help me with all of this.

You need at least 3 cups of vegetables per day. Preferably spread out between all of your meals. Look for vegetables that have the most "bang for your buck" so to speak. For instance, Jicama and peppers are both considered "salad" vegetables and have far more nutrients than does lettuce. Lettuce is practically "empty" of nutrition.

After the initial 2 weeks, move up and add MORE vegetables.
