  • Metobolic Resistance

I really am not understading what it means. I have the book and I just don't get it. Can someone please explain it to me? Or direct me to a thread that does so.

    Re: Metobolic Resistance

Metabolic resistance to weight loss means that there are some factors that can affect your rate/ease of losing weight. These factors can include your age, your general health, your sex, any medical conditions, etc.

Having a 'high' metabolic resistance does not mean you will never lose weight. It just means that your rate/ease of loss will be slower than someone who has a 'low' metabolic resistance.

What is important, however, is to make sure you check your 14 day results with the chart in the book. There are far too many people who think that their 9 pound loss means they have a high metabolic resistance to weight loss and proceed to make decisions about their Atkins that doesn't help them at all. If they only check the charts, they will be able to make better decisions.

      Re: Metobolic Resistance

In plain terms, I like to think of being metabolically resistant as being very energy efficient with your body. Not only can you have an ability to operate from the beginning on less fuel than someone else can, if you repeatedly reduce your fuel supply, your efficiency gradually improves so it can operate on even less. This makes it hard to loose, and easy to gain.

Thanks, but I don't see the chart in the book that I bought. What does the chart look like?

The chart is in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition, Chapter 13.

Okay, I don't have the right book, I had that book before and seen that chart, so losing 12 pounds in 14 days does this mean that I have High or average resistance?

According to the numbers in your signature, you have over 100 pounds to lose. So if you look at the chart Elizellen copied for you, a 12 loss for anyone (man or woman) with more than 50 pounds to lose is low metabolic resistance to weight loss. That means, your ability to lose weight is very good.
