  • Can't get full?

Does anyone ever feel like they can eat forever? I made a wooshie pie yesterday. In the past, I'd have my piece and eat leftovers for another meal or the next day. I couldn't stop eating it this time though! I almost ate the whole thing, I just wasn't full feeling.

I don't know if it may have to do with me being a female...(if you can figure it out where i'm trying to get at)...but is this normal to always want to eat? I have done this in the past with eggs too, and turkey. I just won't stop eating! Is this mental or is my body really hungry? Can anyone spare some advice to not over-eat...I don't want it to get in the way of losing weight on Atkins.

I feel this way every month just before my period. I could eat and eat and eat some more and never feel satisfied. It's insane.

do you gain from the massive appetite you try to fulfill?

        Re: Can't get full?

I have had this happen to me a few times (pretty rare however), I try to think of it as a mental thing. I mean obviously I ate enough to be satisfied but my body is telling me I hardly ate a thing. When this happens I drink alot of water and give the food time to register in my system. I cannot say it happens during a certain time or with any certain food myself. I could see for some people it being craving induced.

When I think of this I think of eating too many carbs/wrong carbs and how your body wants to have more even though you just downed that addicting bag of chips LOL. It's not really hunger related for me, possibly boredom or just eating something that hasnt hit the spot of satisfaction. In that case its time for a new recipe.

          Re: Can't get full?

I woke up this morning at 4am because I was hungry.
All day yesterday I was hungry.
So I decided to eat all of what I'm aloud because I didn't do that yesterday.
I'm so conscience of carbs right now doing the induction that I feel like I have to count everything.
On Atkins website there is a sample 14 day menu.
I'm going to follow that to the letter maybe substituting meats etc.
I'm not a big meat eater so this is hard. Without the carbohydrates I'm hungry.
So I would venture to say that's the problem - your not getting enough carbohydrates to fill you up. AND that's something I'm going to have to get use to for 14 days. After that, it will be easier.

You're the beginning of induction. When I do induction (the first two weeks from carbaholicness) I am *starving* and will eat anything in site, everything I can get my paws on. It's not that I'm not hungry, trying to wait with drinking water, evaluating if I'm hungry or not or if it's a craving, it doesn't matter, it's real hunger, not mental hunger. I didn't count calories on induction, I have no idea what they would have been, I ate a lot of small meals/snacks, of like, 200cal or so apiece, I would give myself a few minutes in-between eating this to see if that made me satisfied before trying to look for something else to eat. If I was hungry later (half an hour/hour/15 minutes/whatever), I would have another snack like that and see if it would make me less hungry...

I wouldn't follow the sample menu for induction from the Atkins Nutritionals website strictly because it uses their products which have induction-illegal ingredients. If you want to use their sample menu, but modify those meals, then I'd say go for it, but the things like waffles, syrup, pizza, shakes... shouldn't be there.

              Re: Can't get full?

I would agree with the induction hunger thing, I was speaking of overeating in general that has nothing to do with being hungry itself. I mean clearly after eating a burger and a salad I am not starving like my body is telling me. Don't get me wrong, I eat my share of food and I do not substitute water for food, what I was saying was that sometimes it takes your body a few minutes to register. I am on the maint phase, and I feel there is a difference between needing to eat and wanting to eat. As far as induction menus go, I highly suggest Linda's website, I found it was harder for me to sit down and think about food, or what I wanted to eat during induction, and her menu breaks it all down for you with some really good eats. If you feel that you are hungry an hour later, thats different.. try eating more protein. This is a "diet/wol" that you should not really be physically hungry on.. except for induction when your body is adjusting.

                Re: Can't get full?

Thank You so Much for telling me about Linda's website.
I looked at it and it looks really good.
Yes I know about the menu on the Atkins website Induction.
They use their products and I already read where someone said it wasn't good to do. Why in the world do they do that anyway if it's not for $ - must be.
Anyway, Yeah I'm hungry. it's making me sick. Must be the carbs withdrawal.
I did Weight Watchers and got no where and if your familiar with that kind of diet, all carbs are ok so I ate allot of them including their muffins etc. It didn't work for me. So now I'm paying for it.
I'll check out Linda's menu and maybe the amount of food I'm eating isn't enough.
I have to be concerned about keeping my carbs below 20 grams is that correct?
                No low fat?
Also may I ask if I have a spinach salad, can I take two handfuls of raw baby leaf spinach and it be about 4 grams of carbs? It's hard to measure raw foods.
                thanks for this help

                    Re: Can't get full?

Yes, you can have spinach salad... as for the grams of carbs, since all of us have different hand sizes, I would suggest measuring out what 2 handfuls is the first time, and then you'll know for the future the actual carb count. I think the actual grams of carbs would be way less than that though. Are you plugging your numbers into FitDay to see calories and percentages??

Your *net carbs* should be below/at 20g for the first 2 weeks. After that, you have the option of extended induction or moving on to OWL (which would probably be the better option for you).

Do you have the 2002 edition of the Atkins Book? You should not be eating low fat. Your percentages should be 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs. Your calories should be over 1200 (which is something WW does not agree with for some people).

YES I will go get the book today.
                      2002 Edition.
I haven't gotten into Fitday yet but will do that too.
Once I get use to the protein/carbs/fat balance It will be easier but for now it's confusing to me.
I feel better aready to tell you the truth and it's only 4 days.
I have high Blood Pressure and I also had a stroke so even tho I need to loose ONLY 40 plus pounds, that 40 pounds affected my health.
I thank you for all your support.

                        Re: Can't get full?

I didn't mean to offend. I just meant that since it's 40 pounds, it should happen relatively quickly, so by moving on to OWL instead of staying with induction, you should lose at about the same rate and will be introducing foods and making it into a life long way of eating instead of just a way to lose weight.

Once things are habit they're always easier. It's how Fitday helps in the beginning, by showing you how to improve and make it fit the lifestyle so you can make that be your habitual way of eating.
