  • Steak toppings/sauces?

What could I use with my steak tonight? I don't remember what I used to use when I ate steak. I think it might of been just plain Mayo, but I need some other suggestions... How can I make a steak taste yummy?

    I like horseradish sauce.

1 tbsp mayo, 1 tbsp sour cream, 1 tbsp grated horseradish. Yum!

    Or, mushrooms sauteed in butter.

Now you've got me craving steak too.

If you have a good cut of meat and the steak is cooked properly, I don't think you'd need to put a lot it. Sauces mostly hide or disguise the flavor of foods, imo.

Anyhow, if you want something legal, why not make a pan sauce after you cooked the steak? When the steak is cooked, remove it from the pan. Pour off any excess fat. Then add a clove of chopped garlic to the pan, let it cook briefly then add some water (1/2 cup at the most!). Use a spoon to scrape all the cooking bits off the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer. You can add a teaspoon of a grainy or Dijon type mustard to this too. It won't be a thick, gravy like sauce that will sit on your steak like a cloud of mayonnaise, but it will be a looser sauce that will cling onto your steak....plus doing this more or less cleans the pan so less scrubbing after dinner.

Yeah, I do sauteed mushrooms and onions in butter. Yum! You can also just salt and pepper it, throw a pat of butter on it, or some horseradish and sour cream mixed together.

Garlic butter, or some herbed butter

If you pan fry your steak, put some cracked pepper on the steak before cooking and fry in some butter. Then after your steak is done, put it aside and put a little white wine in the pan to deglaze it (scrape up the brown bits on the pan) and let it reduce a little and pour ontop of the steak.

I like to do mushrooms sauteed in butter with a shake of garlic powder when the mushrooms are cooked add a little cream to the pan and allow it to thicken slightly.
            Delicious with steak or chops!

              Sauteed onions

              Sauteed mushroom

              Bleu Cheese

are probably my three favorites depending on what you are going for.

Another is butter, soy sauce, grated ginger and garlic (usually cut up the steak into strips)

Or a southwest seasoning with crushed red pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, cumin and paprika if you have it and some dried oregano. Mmmmmmm
