I was just wondering. I read a peanut label in the store and according to my math there are 3 net carbs in one serving. Why are we told to stay off them during induction?

There's a lot more to Atkins than counting carbs. For example, Atkins takes into account how a food affects blood sugar stability, which affects insulin levels, which is ultimately tied to weight loss/gain.

So even if a food has less than 5 grams per serving, it might not be okay for Atkins Induction Phase. Foods like legumes (peanuts, soy, kidney beans, etc.), fruits, starchy vegetables, nuts, grains, etc. are 'good' foods, but they are not appropriate, even though, they can have less than 5 net carbs per serving.

If you want to re-introduce these foods into your Atkins, you can during the On-Going Weight Loss phase. Remember, Induction phase lasts a minimum of 2 weeks and it's not the only weight loss phase of Atkins, nor was it meant to be the only weight loss phase.

I would like to add to what not2late said. Peanuts or Nuts of any kind are really a tough issue with some people, as far as portion sizes and control go. I have to weigh and measure mine, and I never eat them alone. I usually put 1/4th cup in a pumpkin recipe or something. I am on the berry rung now and I have issues with berries.
