  • How do i measure a "cup" of veggies

So whats the right way to make sure a "cup" is a "cup"

If i have frozen spinich do i count a cup of it as cooked where it can be pushed into the cup or when its frozen and looser.

Also same question about lettuce, is it uncompressed or how much i can put into the measuring cup.

Im not sure so dont count on my opinion. The way I have been doing it is uncompressed and before I cook it. If I am eating a cup of broccoli, I put it in the measuring cup before its cooked and dont smash it down. The only one I know im not sure with is lettuce, cause its so leafy. I do push it down a LITTLE bit but dont know if im supposed to or not. Wait to see what other people say about this.

Dr. Atkins states greens as "loosely packed". Also, a good way to measure many vegies is displacement. Take a two cup measuring cup.......fill it with one cup water and add your vegies till it reaches two cups.

But when your doing lettuce, its hard to put it in a 1 cup without pushing a little down on it cause of big leafys, what if it was fine shreaded lettuce? that seems like it would fill a cup a lot easier, but then again if its supposed to be loosely in the cup, it might be to much lettuce since its shreaded.

Bren.. I like the displacement measuring idea! I'd never thought of that.

As far as lettuce goes.. A restaurant I used to work at told me to do a cup of lettuce when making a salad and that a handful was about a cup. Of course, I guess that would depend on your hand size. lol I seem to remember testing that once and it worked pretty well.
