  • Having a hard time

I am having a really hard time today. I cheated and ate a waffle. Why am I feeling so hungry all the time? Are we only allowed to have 1 salad a day during the induction period? I just hope I can stick with this and get over that I cheated.

I have gone to the gym everyday this week-a first for me!!

I am still having a problem with eating the 3 cups of veggies. I dont like any on the induction phase. I am such a picky eater, I dont like veggies. I guess I am just going to have to eat them anyway.

Thanks for the support everyone, I love this site.

    Re: Having a hard time

    Hi,

2 cups of salad veggies a day, and 1 cup of acceptable veggies. Do a cup of garden mix (iceburg not really the best), 1/4 cup cucumbers, 1/4 cup tomatoes, crumble a slice or two of bacon, an oz of cheese, 2 tablespoons of dressing... Lunch time - Do a repeat for dinner, use .5 cup of another veggie. Don't eat your veggies all at one time, spread them out over the course of the day. You say you like salad, that's the way to go. Or make the salad a cup and half of garden mix, use the other 1/2 cup of veggies for an omlet in the morning! The mix is endless. I'm sorry you had the waffle!!

If you're hungry then you're not eating enough and you need to pick up your daily intake of eggs, meats, cheese, higher fat content items!!

    Give that a try!

You don't like any of the 54 vegetables on the Induction Acceptable Foods list???? You might want to look at those 54 veggies again and see if you are willing to re-try them. What I've learned is that many of us have never had properly prepared vegetables, so we develop a dislike for them. For example, I hated Brussels sprouts...until I learned to cook them properly, now they are one of my favorite vegetables. Same thing with green bell peppers--used to hate them, until I learned how to prepare them properly.

The vegetables are important because they contain fiber. Fiber is important for a number of reasons. In regards to Atkins, fiber is important because 1. it prevents constipation, 2. it helps to fill you up during your meals, so you won't over-eat protein and fats, and 3. it helps to bind all the by-products of metabolism in your intestines and remove them from your body.

Nope, I dont like any of them. Weird huh?? I am going to retry green beans that is about the only one on the list that I might could eat. I am not having a problem with constipation yet, just the exact opposite.

Yes, I love salads. So I am trying them with different meats to pump them up some.

I need to start drinking all the required water, right now I am only drinking half of what is stated in the book. I am just not thirsty all the time to drink that much water, but I am going to try.

I am so glad I have you guys to talk with and ask questions, it really helps me out. Thank you!!!!

          Re: Having a hard time

I am so proud of myself for last night. Me and my husband had some family over for dinner. We grilled steaks and had baked potatoes, rolls, green beans and salad.

I only ate steak, green beans and a salad. This was my first time trying green beans and they were not bad. I had to eat them in the same bite as my steak, but hey, I ate them. After dinner everyone was munching on strawberry short cake, I said nope cant have it and resisted the temtation. YAY ME!!!!

After last night with all the temtations of potatoes, rolls and cake I know I can do this.

            Weigh to go
I know you said you dont like nearly all of the 54 veggeis listed for induciton but now you have started by trying the green beans and found they are not bad, why not try some others of the list too?

When I was young my mother used to say that I had at least to eat a little of any food I said I didnt like but cooked in different ways before I was 'allowed' to say I didnt like them!!

At the time I couldnt stand the taste of cooked mushrooms but ended up liking them raw - in fact I found that I could eat most vegetables and other foods cooked differently from my first disliked way of cooking (or not cooking) them.

One food dislike I had that didnt go away while I was young was for milk - cooked or uncooked - in fact I couldnt eat any milky food without gagging (I was the only girl in the school who had an 'excused custard' note for school dinners). I never even liked icecream till I was an adult!!

And now I am 57 I find I can eat dishes made with cream and yogurt and enjoy them. I still couldnt drink a glass of milk to save my life though!!

Maybe your tastes will change too in a similar way?

So try not to dismiss all vegetables but give them a go - it will make your Atkins journey easier and more enjoyable if you can find 'some' you do like!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
