  • Is this drink O.K.?

I was shopping for the approved foods for the induction level and came across a flavored drink at the Giant grocery store. It is there brand of "fruit" drink that has no calories, no carbs, etc... and is made with Splenda.
Is this type of drink o.k.? in moderation?

Hi. I'm on induction too. It seems fine as long as its made with splenda and not aspartame. Just be sure to count the splenda used in the drink.

It would depend on what is in it - check the ingredients for any other added stuff that might not be 'legal' as well as the sweeteners. BTW sometimes they advertise 'made with Splenda' in big letters but there are other not-allowed sweeteners too!
If you are not sure then list the ingredients here and someone will I am sure be able to advise you.

Thanks for the help. Here is the list of ingredients.
Water, Citric acid, natural flavors, potassium citrate, sodium hexametaphosphate, potassium benzoate, potassium sorbate, sucralose, acesulfame potassium, calcium disodium edta, red 40.

There is a diet cranberry juice that has pretty much the same ingredients. I though I had read, in the book, that cranberry juice was o.k. But the above ingredients is for "Fruit Connections" from Giant.

I dont know what some of the ingredients are, but as long as the chemicals arent names for actual fruit juices (which are not allowed on induciton) I imagine it would be OK as long as you count each 'serving' of it as one of your 3 sweetener servings per day.

The bottle should tell you how many servings it contains - I think one serving is 8 fluid ounces, so depending on the bottle size you might be able to have one a day IN ADDITION to your water!!

Hope you don't mind another question? I have read the DANDR book and don't recall any mention of the "sweetners" per day. Can you explain? The only thing I noticed was that they didn't want you to consume more than three packets of saccharin per day. Thanks again.

              From the Rules of Induction
              13. You may use up to three packets of sucralose (Splenda®) daily. (More and more products are being made with Splenda® so if you use any, include those grams in your tally also.)
