  • Losing Motivation...

Day 12 of induction, I've lost 3 lbs when overall I'd like to lose 40. I know that I still have a couple days to lose, and that if I lose 3 lbs in the first two weeks I'm right on track with losing 5-10% of my total goal loss. HOWEVER, I'm totally losing my motivation. I wanted this to be a jumpstart, something that would change the scale enough to get me pumped to keep going. Right now, I'm not seeing enough weight loss to know that it's the diet and not just coincidence.

Is anyone else going through this? I've totally lost my motivation to succeed.

      Re: Losing Motivation...

I appreciate you posting that, and I have read it...multiple times. However, that doesn't make it easier. I wanted to know if anyone else is going through this, losing motivation, etc. So maybe we can support each other. I don't know what other options I have. If I quit this diet I'll just be fat, unhappy and not doing anything about it. I'm not happy with my progress so far but at least I'm doing something about it. *or trying to*

        hi snuggles...

i am on day 4, and i felt like that on day 2, and a little on day 3..i thought that this wasnt worth it, all kinds of things..what i did was read as much as i could of others' stories, and found that, like the book says, everyones body is different..in the book dr atkins says it isnt about the pounds sometimes, but how you feel and how things fit....also, remember like you said, you are supposed to loose 5 to 10% of your goal weight during induction, and in reality, you have lost exactly how much you should have, no matter how little it may seem..this is about so much more than you can gauge by pounds shed..hang in there...you CAN do this...before you know it, you are gonna be posting about how much better everything fits and how good you feel and how worth it this is.....

That sure isn't how I feel right now. Everything feels the same, the scale isn't changing, the food is getting old and the gym is getting more crowded because of summer which makes it more of a chore to go.

The only thing I can say is that motivation is a state of mind that you have to focus on daily...atleast in my case. Beginning this process with 160lbs to lose...I can unequivocally say, YES I've lost motivation from time to time...YES I know how you're feeling...and if there's anyway I can help you stay on track and feel better supported on your venture...I'd like to do so. Hang in there Chica.

it is okay to not feel that right now...just think that one day, maybe tomorrow, maybe tonight, you WILL....as for the crowded gym, i would maybe think of all the people there that at the end of the summer will see how big a change there is in you....we didnt gain our weight at once, we sure arent going to loose it at once...i happen to think 3 pounds is great..dont beat yourself up, and dont hold yourself to others progress...chin up !!

                Re: Losing Motivation...

hey! i just came across your post. i understand your feelings but......here is the tough love talk. losing weight is hard work. it just is. we are all in this boat together due to lots of reasons but we can get OUT of the boat!

do not let your feelings contol your actions in a negative way.....as i see it i have 2 options. i can give up the plan that i KNOW works. (SEE THE RESULTS OF ALL THESE AMAZING MEMBERS!) or....i can quit. if i quit then i am right back where i started. i really started atkins about 2 weeks ago. i lost about 8 pounds since i did....sometimes i say "just 8 pounds.." and sometimes i think "WOW 8 POUNDS!!!" yea it does depend on my mood. 8 is 8 is 8....it is 8 LESS than i had before.

also, try not to look at the big number...i attack my weight in 5 pound increments...and celebrate each lost 1!

snuggles, you and i have about the same amount to lose....let's stick together girl! WE CAN DO THIS!!! read the board faithfully,,,,we all have ups and downs...but WE CAN DO THIS!!! hang in there......you are stronger than you think.

Isn't that motivation enough? If you quit, you'll be fat and unhappy. You wrote it yourself.

That was/is my motivation for being on Atkins. I know it has worked for me. And I know I don't want to be be fat again.

When I was a newbie here, we had a few moderators who used to say, it took more than 14 days to gain all our weight, so why should we expect losing weight will be a shorter and easier journey?

You have to stay focused. You have to believe in your goal and in yourself. The only one who can hold you back is you. So you have to look into yourself and ask if you are worth anything to you.

                    Re: Losing Motivation...

It's just getting harder each day that passes. My body feels awful. I'm sleepy and sluggish, I don't have regular bowel movements and that is giving me stomach aches. I've already been through the induction flu part of it and I've been taking all my supplements so I think it's just my body saying that it hates this kind of diet.

snuggle...i am the world's WORST procrastinator. i can talk myself in or out of anything i want to......the first week and a half were tough for me. my tummy did not feel so great. my (cough, cough) "system" was not operating as usual.....i felt TIRED. but i kept READING all the posts from the pros here (i am no pro,,,,still very much a newbie.) listening to them, especially my new bud jess, i hung in there......

my results are slow but they are results....i LOVE what scooter had to say quoted from joy..."i can have excuses or i can have results but i can not have both!"

THAT IS MY NEW MANTRA.....HOW 'BOUT YOU???

as jess told me once, I AM IN CONTROL OF ME. i can not control how my body will adjust and lose but I AM IN CONTROL OF WHAT I DO!

there is not one person on this board who will tell you this is EASY, especially at the beginning but it GETS easy!!!!

as my good, sweet and smart mama used to say to me "girl you are stronger than you think." it is up to you,,,,no one can do this but you

i just wanted to thank all of you. i am having a down day and i appreciate all the encouragement i've been getting. my mother, who has been overweight her whole life-had gastric bypass and is back up to 200 lbs again, told me that i shouldn't stick to a diet while i'm on my upcoming cruise becaue it's vacation. i told her that being vacation is not giving me a vacation from being uphappy with how heavy i am, and gaining five lbs by not worrying while i'm on that vacation will only make it harder on me when i get back. hearing how committed i was to it, and then reading everything you have all said today, really has gotten me back on track. Off to take my fiber (cause that's been a problem) and eat my Cobb salad
