  • ? about Atkins Revolutionary Rolls

For the Atkins Revolutionary Rolls on this board that are stated to be induction legal, can you toast them? How do they hold up compared to a reg. roll?

    Thanks for all help.

I've never tried toasting them. But give it a try and see what happens. As for holding up like a regular roll/bread. They do really well as sandwich bread. In fact, I've used them for egg salad or tuna salad sandwiches on my hikes and day trips and they've done well. To decrease the chance of sogginess, I put a thin slice of cheese onto the rolls before I add the salad mixture. They also hold up well for cold meat sandwiches, too. And I've taken them to barbecues to use as hamburger buns. However, I wouldn't if you want veggies in your sandwich, I would pack those separately and add them right before eating because the rolls, like regular bread, will absorb the juice from sliced tomatoes and veggies that are somewhat wet/moist.

I found this on an old thread a couple days ago. It's good when you want to make a toasted sandwich.

I copied it here since I just saved it to have the recipe, and don't want to search for the old thread again where I found it. Just want to make sure that Weighless gets all the credit, this is her post!

      1 large egg
      1/4 tsp baking powder
      1/4 tsp baking soda
      1 TBSP softened cream cheese.

Mix well and let set for a minute or so. The flax will thicken up a bit. I put it into a small bowl. One that is about the size of the bun I want.

Then nuke for a minute or two. It should look like it's cooked. (spongy looking) I turn it out on something and as soon as I can I cut it in half (so it looks like a bun) and then toast the halves. Then a touch of butter on each half. I use this for hamburgers...egg sandwiches...etc.

      It was good and filling!

Thank you so much for posting a picture of it with the recipe. I've read the Atkins Revolutionary Rolls recipe but it was different that the one you posted and it wasn't as easy.

I'm going to try that one for sure. I've been longing for some bread to go with my eggs and bacon as well as my chicken salad.

This has made me a very happy camper.

Actually, that's not the revolutionary rolls recipe. I can't remember what she called it. But after it's toasted, it's really like having a bun. And easy to make!

For a loaf-style (to get slices for sandwiches) try the microwaved flax bread recipe http://lowcarbrecipes.org/index.php?...ew&recipe_id=7

Thanks for sharing that recipe. I tried the revolutionary rolls a long time ago and liked them but remember them being a lot of work. If I remember correctly, you can freeze the revolutionary rolls.

Hello and thank you to everyone for the responses. Only question is, the different recipe for the rolls that was posted, does that have the same carb count and the revolutionary rolls?

                  4 - ground flax

Unfortunately, that flax bun contains too much flax for Induction. Fiber supplements like flax, psyllium and wheat bran are limited to 1 tablespoon daily for Induction.

Okay thank you Not2late for clearing that up for me. They looked so good too. Oh well I will have to wait for that recipe. Meanwhile I will only use the Revolution roll recipe.

Re: ? about Atkins Revolutionary Rolls

I made these lastnight and they turned out really nice looking. I have not eaten any of them yet. When I made them, I doubled the recipe and I had to let some sit for about the 30-40 minutes until the first batch was done and the mixture became alittle smoother which I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. But when I spooned them onto the parchment paper lined pan, they made a more like bun shape. So I might do that from now on, or mix up the batter alittle better to have it smooth.

BTW I read somewhere that if you store them in the fridge in a plastic bag with a few holes in it they will go more 'bready' overnight.

Thank you for that idea Eliz, I will have to try that. I had one for lunch today with my burger and it was absolutely delightful.

I was going to also try them for mountain pies over a camp fire. Since the weather is getting warmer out, I always go to cookouts and that is a main meal at alot of them. So I hope that it works.

I made the rolls this weekend, they were soo soo easy. I was amazed, and good too, of course I didn't care too much for the strong onion flavor, I won't put as much next time. But this am I took one out the refrigerator, put butter, a little garlic powder and broiled it for a few seconds, (WATCH IT CLOSELY it browns fast and easy to burn). I ate it with lunch, pretty good. These have like .8 carbs

I also made the cheese danish variation of the recipe, it was wonderful. These have .6 carbs (but I used liquid splenda which has 0 carbs compared to the l carb for the packets).
