  • very discouraging

I finished my first week of induction. I lost about 8 pounds, i went from 259 to 251, but today when i got on the scale it said 252 The day before that i ate ground beef with cheese and sour cream, is it the sour cream thats making the weight stop coming off or is it the scale playing mind games with me because i keep weighing myself almost everyday or every other day and the pounds were coming off but today it went up a little

umm... it could be a lot of things, TOM, exercise, salt intake, etc... but still, losing 7 pounds in 8 days is really great. Did you take your measurements in the beginning? A lot of folks only weigh once a week since the daily fluctuations (up or down that pound) can start frustrating them. It could just be the scale being a nasty bastard tho.

      Hi Smirk,

This is absolutely normal. Your weight will fluctuate all the time. I am constantly gaining back a pound or two, then loosing it plus another 1/2 pound.
I think the key to sticking with it is looking back at your average over a matter of weeks, not day to day. You are just setting yourself up for frustration weighing every day.

You just lost 8 pounds! You are successful! You should have a big smile, not be discouraged in the least!

        Re: very discouraging

Ditto. I weigh once a week (twice if I'm feeling lucky, punk ) and ignore it the rest of the days. I also keep in mind that strength training or HEAVY exercise will make me retain water. Not drinking enough water or eating salty foods also makes me retain water. And remember, unless you ate an EXTRA 3500 calories yesterday, that 1 pound is NOT 1 pound of fat.

So step away from the scale, and don't hop on until next week!

          Re: very discouraging

thanks for the advice. I'm doing everything right, doing a clean induction, measurements, I exercise 6 days a week with 'slim in six' and next week i'm gonna join a karate class, so i got a little frustrated after that hard work out and the next day it said i gained a pound(maybe it was water?)...i guess i want too much for myself...i wanted to see the scale go down everyday but i guess it doesnt work like that ..gotta be patient, i'll just leave the scale alone

          thanks for the support

            Re: very discouraging

The 1 pound is either water or muscle. If you're doing slim in six, you're vigorously exercising 6 days a week. My guess is that not only are you replacing fat with lean muscle, your muscles are retaining water to make repairs. Keep on drinking your water, and you should flush out any extra h20 you're retaining. I think what happens to me is that I stay around the same weight for a few days, and then drop a couple pounds in a day or so. But everyone's weight fluctuates wildly based on time of day, water intake, hormones, etc. All I know is that weight loss is NOT linear!

One more question--did you take measurements when you started? Take them again at the end of induction and you'll be surprised at what you've lost!

I agree with the other posters. I think that you're building muscle, which in the long run will help you melt away the fat quicker (raising your metabolism).

Focus on the positive: YOU JUST LOST 8 POUNDS!!!!That is FABULOUS!!

These people on the boards are proof that this WOE works, so keep it up!!

Another positive point: you are talking about your discouragement, rather than quitting. I hope I have that strength when I hit a bump.
