Did you eat anything salty or high in sodium..or did you weigh yourself just after eating a meal?

I usually weigh myself in the morning after I have gone to the bathroom but BEFORE I eat or drink anything.

It was at 10 am and I had eaten, but just celery, I did have a diet coke last night. No carbs, but lots of sodium though. So could explain it.. It was like WTH? when i saw the scales go up not down.. grrrrr.....

I have found when I drink soda like D. Coke I retain water...so THAT could be it. How much sodium does it have? When I am craving something sweet I treat myself to a Diet A & W and I don't retain anything. It has 70g of sodium but 0 on everything else.

Push your water today and I am sure tomorrow that 1lb gain will be history.

Our weight fluctuates throughout the day as well as from day to day - and not always downward I am afraid.

If seeing an upward blip is going to spoil your day try not to weigh frequently

Thanks again ladies your the best...

MisMel, D.coke only has 40g of sodium so not as bad as some sodas I guess. But I have been good today and not drank one can. I use to drink up to 6 a day so this is VERY good for me. Ive stepped up the water too and I will keep away from the scales until its been a week for me which will be next Thursday.

                Re: Ok whats going on???

I think it depends on how much you drink in a day. I have a friend who drinks at least a 2 liter a day...that IS her water and then she wonders why she is bloated. She is also on a dieretic and I have tried to tell her if she got rid of the soda and drank water and watched her overall salt intake she could lose that medication. I just don't think it will happen anytime too soon. lol

I am sure you will see positive results come Thursday.

                Goodluck~

                  Re: Ok whats going on???

whats going on is that the weight we can carry in our head is much greater than the weight we carry on our bodies and it is essential for our freedom and happiness to lose it.

your body needs time to make metabolic adjustments. this is not a time that your ego sets - but a time that a much abused from carbs body sets on its own. you may want to be your bodys dictator, but thats not fair to your body. please give your body the time and the trust it deserves.

as someone who has been doing atkins since february of 2005, trust me that the process works.

i haven't been on the scale in months and months. i no longer care what that number reads. my clothes fit. i can eat as much food as i want to. i'm free.

but the true miracle is that i no longer sabatoge myself with antiquainted rituals that cannot nuture me. i don't play the low esteem because of a scale number anymore.

please read all the stickys at the top of this forum. set yourself a goal to go two entire weeks on induction without weighing. it will be so good for you.

i soon learned to go entire months without weighing, and now an entire year.

also note that you can lose entire sizes on atkins and not see any scale movement at all. it happened to me. so put your attention on what matters - nuturing yourself with healthy food, and let that silly scale number go go go....

Hey aussieinaz! How are you? I just wanted to pop in a post here since I tend to let the scale affect my feelings. I for one, have to weigh everyday. It is just what I do and it helps me to keep my weight in check. Everyday that I step on the scale I remind myself that I have choices to make throughout the day. Anyhow, what I have learned to do is to weigh everyday for a week. Then I add them all of that weeks weight together and divide by 7 to get my weeks average. That is what I then deicide, compared to the last week average, whether or not I had a gain, loss, or maintained. I have found this to be effective because, from day to day, your weight can fluctuate a bit up and a bit down depending on TOM, foods eaten, etc. "Averaging" gives a more stable way to gauge ones progress, I feel! Hang in there, stick with us, and we'll help you along the way.

                      Re: Ok whats going on???

Thanks again, I love this site.

Tabekat- What you say is SOOO very true. I actually did the Atkins back in 02 and lost a total of 86 lbs when I left my ex husband. I threw out the scales and did not weigh myself for 2 years. I went from a size 22 to a side 10 so I figured I lost ALLOT. When I finely got on the scales I was shocked to see how much I had really lost.

So with that said I should know better, but they where looking at me and I can see Im going to fall in the same pit fall. I will weigh myself at the end of the two weeks and then decide if i want to keep going on the induction faze. Which Im pretty sure I want to keep doing until I leave of Australia in June. I have 20 plus pounds I want to lose before then.

Anyway thanks for the great advice people, your the best...

If your clothes feel looser then you are losing - fat but not necessarily scale weight!! Many members post that they are getting smaller even though not getting lighter so you are not alone.

Don't pay any attention to it. I've found that on certain days you weigh more and other days you weigh less. Usually, if I go on a diet on Friday then from that time forward it seems like Wednesday is my low weight day. Don't ask me why, that's just the way it is. Our bodies cycle, they shed fat, store up water, drop water, gain muscle all those things seem to affect your weight.

I'm one who doesn't get discouraged when the scale fluctuates (although I do admit to unbridled panic when it doesn't move at all for long periods of time) so I weigh daily. Other people do better weighing only weekly or every other week.

Do NOT worry, you are young, that weight will fall off if you just keep to plan.

Thanks again ladies, your all so great in your responses.

I looked back and saw I actually drank 3 to 4 cans of diet coke the day before I weighed so THAT has ALLOT to do with it Im sure. Yesterday I drank NONE which is a big thing for me.

I really need to measure myself but do you think I can find my measuring tape around here. NOOOOOOO I have like 3 of due to being a designer. Once my son or husband get there hands on anything its GONE for ever. And last I remember my husband was using one for some thing.. Anyway I will go buy one today when out and about.
