So induction has been going very well so far. I've lost 6 pounds this first week which is pretty good since i only need to lose 35. But i have a few questions..
    1. Some say no low carb tortillas during induction but i saw them on the atkins website induction menu..so are these a yes or a no?
    2. What are some good snacks to eat when you crave something crunchy and salty? What about when you want something sweet?
    3. is alcohol ok? i know that like bacardi and diet coke have no carbs... so is it ok?
    4. I really don't like eggs are there any other good breakfast choices?

Thanks! And if you have any other great recipes or any other tips please let me know!!

    ali:

I'm not an expert, but I will put in my 2 cents, and if an expert wants to correct me I am open to learning.

    1. They're on the website, but they are not on the list of acceptable foods during induction. It is best to only eat from that list. Have you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? It proves to be the best reference for me, and for a lot of people on this board.

    2. Crunch and salty. Hmm. Celery and a bit of nitrate-free lunch meat? Normally if I'm craving something, a piece of nitrate-free (Hormel makes it) Roast Beef wrapped around an ounce of cream cheese does the trick for me. Likewise, for sweet: an ounce of cream cheese sprinkled with a tad of splenda. And a little cream whipped with a little splenda also works for me. I don't have many suggestions, because I'm only on Day 6, but hopefully one of these will help!

    3. According to induction rules: No alcohol. Those low in carbs, however, will be permitted in moderation in later phases.

    4. In the book Atkins for Life, Dr. Atkins suggests other options, but the only thing Induction-friendly in that list: sliced turkey or smoked salmon wrapped around cream cheese. Or last night's leftovers. Me personally, I have a snack within 2 hours of waking up, normally some cheese, and then have some more food a couple hours later.

Hopefully someone else will be able to fill in the gaps I left, and verify that I have correct information.

Definately a no, if its not in the book then dont have it. The atkins site has changed to a more commercial site and they are making money. I would stay with whats in the book or posted on this site. We are strict about the DANDR book
      2. What are some good snacks to eat when you crave something crunchy and salty?
Pork rinds are a great salty snack and sweet snack if you spray them with cooking spray and sprinkle cinnamon and splenda mix on them.

What about when you want something sweet? The mock danish is great during induction.
      3. is alcohol ok? i know that like bacardi and diet coke have no carbs... so is it ok? Everyone has their own opinion wether its acceptable, but the book states not during induction.
      4. I really don't like eggs are there any other good breakfast choices? Check out our recipe section or cooking chat, there are alot of induction friendly recipes in there.

Re: i need help from the experts

You have been given some good answers already but I just wanted to add a few comments, alibaby.

        1. For the tortillas as well as any other processed foods you need to check the actual list of ingredients of any foods. Compare the list with the list of allowed foods for induction (or whatever stage of Atkins you progress to) to make sureyou are eating according to plan.
Depending on the ingredients in your tortillas they might be legal once you reach the nuts/seeds OWL level (if they are made with almond flour for example) or the legumes rung (if they are made with soya flour) or the grains rung (if made with wheat or rice flour). If you cant work out which OWL rung/level they would be OK for just post a list of the ingredients here and someone will be able to help you decide.

        2. For crunchy I make cheese crackers by microwaving small chunks of cheese till spread out and crispy (you can also use grated cheese in piles for these)

        3. Alcohol can be introduced when you reach the alcohol level/rung of Ongoing Weightloss (OWL).
But you need to be aware of this fact from DANDR
The body bums alcohol for fuel when alcohol is available. So when it is burning alcohol, your body will not burn fat. This does not stop weight loss; it simply postpones it. Since the alcohol does not get stored as glycogen, you immediately get back into lipolysis after the alcohol is used up. But keep in mind that alcohol consumption may increase yeast-related symptoms in some people (see Chapter 25) and interfere with weight loss. If it does not slow your weight loss, an occasional glass of wine is acceptable once you are out of Induction so long as you count the carbohydrates in your daily tally. (A 31/2-ounce glass of wine contains about 4.3 grams of carbohydrate.) Spirits such as Scotch, rye, vodka and gin are acceptable, but do not mix with juice, tonic water or non-diet soda, all of which contain sugar. Seltzer, diet tonic and non-aspartame diet soda mixers are permitted. If you have added alcohol to your regimen and suddenly stop losing weight, discontinue your alcohol intake.

        4. For breakfast you can eat anything from the allowed list - so choose your favourite food if you dont like eggs. I dont think I have eaten eggs for breakfast once in nearly 4 years other than in quiches!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Re: i need help from the experts

          Hi there,
Here's a link to a recipe for "Revoluton Rolls" that I found the other day...makes something you can safely substitute for a wrap:
          http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37423&highlight=revolution+rolls+ recipe
Scroll down a few messages on that page and you'll see the recipe.

If you go to the recipes forums you can find all kinds of things. This is also a great site for low carb recipes (including very simple snack ideas)
          http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/index.html

I stir fry a couple of chicken breasts, cut up into bite sized pieces, and keep them in the fridge for snacking.
Invest some time in searching the recipes on this website and I think you'll be amazed by what you can find.
This is a great place for support isn't it?
          Happy recipe hunting!
