  • Always HUNGRY - First days - expectations

Hi there...I have just started Atkins and today, on day two, I am starving and cannot get a "full feeling" and it's making me crazy.

I had a mixed green salad with sharp cheddar cheese and ham slices. No dresssing. It was delicious and made a good lunch.

For a snack a bit ago, I had two eggs scrambled with Ricotta cheese - no salt - it was sooo sweet tasting and delicious!

Anyway, just wanted to know if others experience/d this?

    Thank you!

I definantly do! One big difference I noticed already was that sometimes alot of water would take the feeling away and sometimes if I had a high protien snack such as hard boiled eggs or tukey wrapped around cheese I would feel better but not for like twenty minutes later, the opposite with carbs as I would always get an instant full feeling...maybe that helps! Hang in there though and remember that you are encouraged to eat!

You need more fat is my guess...... either way that's your problem even if you ARE still craving carbs.

Just make a big fat and juicy steak... Throw it on the grill.. that's what I'm doing now

Thanks Kevin! A steak on the grill sounds awesome but right now it's snowing outside here in the Twin Cities!!!

I've got a pork chop cooking right now with mushrooms and broccoli so I am hoping hoping hoping that it is enough to sate me appetite!

That NY Strip is looking good about now.. I'm going to cut it up and use it on a salad tomorrow.

I agree, more fat...and probably more water is needed.

In the beginning we so often mistake feelings of thirst for hunger. So, I recommend when you feel "hungry" and you know you've recently eaten, to have a glass of water (I prefer room temperature as it is easier for me to swallow) and wait about 10 minutes. If you are still "hungry", then go ahead and EAT. There is NO reason to be hungry on Atkins.

Thanks for your input. I have been keeping my Britta water container on the counter so I always see it and I am drinking more water...and you are right, I feel full. That's been the hardest thing for me all these years...I never really feel full and can eat, and eat and gain and gain!

Hi there... I am on my 8th day of induction and I wanted to tell you that for the first week or so, I was MISERABLE! I wanted to dive into the candy dish. I wanted a roll or anything like that. But I am finding now that I have to force myself to eat. It's insane! I NEVER thought in a million years that I would have that problem. I think that everytime I have that craving, I drink a glass of water and wait 15 min. It really works. Its all mind over matter. Ya know?

Stick to it and I know you can do it!

That is sooo good to hear! How many days did it take for you to see a pound or two drop? Of course, this is only my second day and I'm determined to make this work but boy, I want my sugar! I had to drive out of my way to AVOID a Dairy Queen today! Sigh........I don't want to be a super model, I just want to be healthy!

I really appreciate everyone's kind comments and support. If this is what it is like to be on Atkins, I say yeah, because people on this site are awesome.

Sounds to me like you're having sugar cravings rather than true hunger. Keep going on the plan and pretty soon those cravings will go away. In a week or so, you'll find yourself almost having to force yourself to eat. It's great! Just keep pushing through and have faith.

Re: Always HUNGRY - First days - expectations

I am now on day 3 and it has been easier than I thought. I am enjoying the food so whenever I get hungry, which is usually about an hour before my meals, I just drink more water and wait. It gets easier over time.

My biggest challenge is evenings when I used to snack on whatever is around. Finding a carb snack is so much easier than finding a protein snack.

One of the tricks I've learn from a very successful LCarber is to mix up a "shake" to drink. 1 scoop no carb Vanilla Whey Powder, 1 Tablespoon SF Orange Metamucile(I use Walmarts brand), 1-2 teaspoons cream, and 8-12 ounces of water. Blend well and enjoy. Between the protien in the Whey Powder and the fiber, the hunger disappears.

                          Good luck

Thanks so much! Yes, grilling in the snow is fun (so is hot tubbing and I say if you can't have a hot tub and best friends/neighbors who do!). Anyway, on my third day TODAY I weighed myself and I'm DOWN TWO pounds! Not much but it's going the right direction! I guess I am just so fearful of failing, once again.

I cooked up some hard-boiled eggs for work snacks and made a salad with lots of hearty greens, sharp cheddar cheese and ham....hopefully, it will keep me sated for a bit.

Have a great day everyone ... I am most grateful for the kind replys and wish everyone a terrific Protein Day!
