I might be having easter dinner at my bf's parents house, on monday. She doesn't like it when im on atkins and I feel bad when i tell her i cant eat certain things because im on the atkins. What are some things I can eat, what do i stay away from and how do i explain to her that im doing it for myself!

Im really not quite sure actually, they are polish and i know there will be alot of breaded stuff, which i will need to stay away from. I just hate it when she says "Oh, just a small piece" and then i feel like i have too.

Ask what she's having, so you'll know ahead of time what you can eat. Moreover, you might want to bring a side dish that everyone, including you, can eat.

            Re: Easter dinner

if you get a roast dinner just have the meat and green veg - you can put potatoes on your plate and just leave them chopped up as if you have eaten them! - dont go near the gravy.

or you could just stick to your guns and impress them all with your willpower - after all they do know that you are doing Atkins and really should respect that! If his mum was on a low fat diet you wouldn't force lovey creamy puds on her!

                Re: Easter dinner

On Easter traditionally ham and lamb are served, but there may be different sources of meat. Be as polite as you can and explain that even though the 'other' foods look delicious that you are happy with what you have chosen to eat. If she pushes than she is not a very nice hostess. To be on the safe side I would call her ahead of time and explain, and also say that you would like to bring a dish to share if that was alright with her. Then make a safe dish and share with everyone. Be sure to ask her if this is okay though, some host's like to handle everything. Maybe she would even consider making something herself that is safe for you.

                  Re: Easter dinner

I would bring along a nice salad for sure, and maybe scalloped turnips or creamed spinach in the Side Dishes Forum perhaps. And I think there are Induction-friendly cheesecakes. Make sure you take enough so it doesn't look like your plate is empty next to everyone else's. That goes a long way towards making a hostess feel comfortable. No one wants to see their guests looking like they're starving. I've found if my plate is full no one really seems to notice that I'm not eating everything on the table. Of course, "in-laws" probably will. Happy Easter - the joy is in the holiday and the gathering, not in the food!

There are also some excellent cauliflower recipes that would make a nice potato substitute.
