  • low-sodium bacon

    Hi there,
I am new to Atkins too- officially starting tomorrow...but I have been applying basic principles the last week- no sugar (except a piece of fruit every other day) and no bread what-so-ever...I figure that this will make my trasition to induction a lot easier, as I want to have a clean induction!

I read a lot of posts about sodium and water retention and I wanted to let everyone know that Costco's kirkland brand bacon has a 50% less salt variety and it, in my opionion is better than regular bacon...I actually never ate a lot of bacon because I hate a lot of salt and fat and now I have to get used to eating it for breakfast- Incidentally I do like this bacon a lot. I can't believe I get to eat fat!! I stayed away from butter for so long that I never enjoyed my husband's hollandaise! I now have to learn to love mayo again too!

So there you have it- if you want to cut some salt- look for half salt bacon!! Trust me, it really is devine!

Thanks for the hint. I'll add it to my Costco shopping list for the end of the month. Best wishes for induction. It sounds like you've been doing your homework and should have an problem free induction.

thanks! I have a lot to lose(weight wise) and want to make sure that I do everything completely by the book. Good luck on your journey as well- seems like you are doing awsome already!

If you have been on induction for more than 14 days do you have any tips for dealing with potential setbacks that may arise?

        Re: low-sodium bacon

I too have discovered this Costco bacon - it is NOT cured, has no nitrates and is low sodium - I love it and just cooked up a batch for my omelet and with leftovers for snacks It is the most "healthful" bacon I've seen and it is dee-licous!

Thanks for posting that info, and well done for planning weaning yourself off bread and sugars before starting induction
          I noticed you said this

I dont think I have eaten bacon (or fried/scrambled/poached etc eggs) for breakfast once in the 3 plus years I have been Atkineering!
Any of the foods on the allowed list are 'legal' and no particular one of them is 'mandatory' if you dont like them
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            Re: low-sodium bacon

cool thanks! I must admit since I have found the low sodium bacon I do enjoy a couple of pieces just in the morning. So I have some more ideas for getting creative with breakfast- what kinds of things that are induction legal do you eat?

            thanks!

              Re: low-sodium bacon

Recently I have been makin no-crust quiches (eggs, cream, cheese, cooked veggies/meat) and eating a slice of them in the mornings.
another favourite for breakfast is ham/cheese rollups.
I dont usually have (or want to make) time for cooking from scratch so these are quick and easy!

along the lines of costco shopping- my husband bought this wine chorizo sausage the 5th ingredient is red wine and the 6th is glucose...there are 3 more ingredients after that which are the curing agents.. I don't think I should eat this...am I right? I had two small pieces last night with my chicken breast...it didn't taste sweet at all but the nutritional info listed 5 g carbs and 1g sugar per 1/2 sausage. Tell me if I am right to not eat this...I gve vowed not to touch it just in case.
