  • I want to give up!!!!!

I don't know why, but I want to give up. I want some yogart and some grapes. I drank some water and started to clean the bathrooms to take my mind off of wanting something that wasn't legal. I had a good breakfast of 2 lg eggs, cooked in 1 tbsp of butter, topped with 2 oz of munster cheese. I know that two oz cheese maybe a lot but I couldn't resist. I also snacked on pepperoni slices while the eggs were cooking. I had a big cup of decaf tea with 2 packs of splenda and two tbsp of heavy cream. I've been chewing waaay too much gum. I just want to give up and have a rum and diet pepsi. Not only that my husband brought two cases of beer last night, Bud for him and my fav Coors Light. I just wanted to vent and hope that this will pass.

I was also thinking that maybe I workout too much with the weights. I do three sets of 12 reps. I have twelve different excerisizes that I do, it takes about an hour to complete the routine and I do this three times a week with step aerobic three times a week.

I need to stop the gum cold turkey, I know that's not helping.

Just to let you know the bathrooms are sparkling clean. Any body have any cleaning to get done? ha ha

Foojoy...everyone has times like this. What you need to do at times like this is re-affirm your committment. Read motivational stories here and the list you made when you first began your journey as to why you wanted/needed to lose weight. Don't give up on yourself....we are here and we won't give up on you. When you joined the ADBB, you joined a family that wants to see you succeed.

Are you involved in any of the challenges? Have you tried any new recipes? If you are craving certain foods, look for substitutes to low-carb that dish so you can enjoy it and not feel deprived. You can do it. We are here, instead of giving up, devise a plan to help you get through this. If you need help, ask! Every day you are closer to goal and closer to making this a way of life!!

        Hi Foojoy:
We've been having a discussion at the link below about why weighing ourselves is not always the best way to measure weight loss. Check it out, it may give you some hope:

        measurements vs weight thread

I don't think you really want to give up...otherwise you just would, and you wouldn't bother posting here~c'mon, don't give up.

Re: I want to give up!!!!!

Foojoy one thing that will help you is moving from induction to OWL once your two weeks are done. I remember in a previous post that you said you enjoyed induction foods, but you missed dairy. Well then, move to OWL! There is NO reason to stay on induction longer than two weeks. Don't be afraid that your weight loss will stop. I lost about 25 pounds on induction/extended induction, but have lost almost 50 on OWL. I wish I'd moved to OWL SOONER!!!

If you follow OWL correctly, yogurt is legal on rung 3. Coors light and rum are legal on rung 5. Grapes are legal on rung 7. You can HAVE all of this stuff eventually, as long as it doesn't cause cravings or other ill side effects. Atkins is NOT a plan about deprivation, it's a plan about learning what foods work for you.

OWL is where we REALLY teach ourselves how to eat. There's a lot of responsibility in OWL, but don't let that scare you. It is SO exciting to re-introduce foods...it's almost like eating them for the first time again. I've worked my way through the rungs and I'm at rung 9. I can eat almost anything. And I have taken my time, so I have the control, willpower, and knowledge to eat what legal foods I choose.

If your two weeks are up, I suggest moving on to OWL. It will alleviate boredom and soon you'll be eating new foods.

Darn i got booted when i tried to post..i'll try again..

Im certainly no expert and probably shouldnt be giving advice...but arent u supposed to avoid anything artificially sweetened (ie: Splenda, gum) especially during induction??

I know for me, anything even artifically sweetened would induce the never-ending cravings again. If you are hungry just eat more legal foods. Atkins said u shouldnt be hungry during induction. Honestly, on day two..i ate two omelets ..snacked on bacon all day...and then had two servings of steak and veggies that night. And still lost weight. My appetite has since decreased tremendously...with NO cravings. Of course im watching my portions more now..but u dont want to feel deprived and give up. You CAN do it. Best of luck to you!!!!

                    You can do it!

Day 4 of induction was horrible for me; my head hurt, I was constipated, I was hungry and felt generally weak and lousy. I REALLY wanted to say screw this and go fix myself a gin & tonic! Instead, I posted on this board (first time posting, first time I've ever been a member of a posting board) and got some encouragement.

Keep on going one day at a time, one meal/snack at a time if it's easier!

I'm now at day 6 of induction and I'm feeing happier and more comfortable. Let me know how it's going after the weekend.

                    Take care!

What GREAT advice and you did the RIGHT thing by coming here and posting.
I hope you feel better and that you will slow down on the gum.
I was a HUGE excel polar ice chewer before starting this WOL and on induction I cut it out completely. Now once in awhile I will have ONE piece in a day.
                      You CAN do this...

Re: I want to give up!!!!!

I would do clean induction for another week, if not those cravings might haunt you until they win. Personally tomorrow will finish up 4 weeks of induction. If I didn't do that, those cravings would have brought me to my fat knees.

A big thanks to one and all. I really needed that. Sometimes I do feel like crying. But I just suck it up and have a glass of water.

I really think that my sugar cravings are coming from the gum. I don't have any fresh packs left, just some hard, stale packs I manage to find in some pockets and a pocketbook. I felt like some druggie, looking for more gum.

Anyway tomorrow is a new day and I get a fresh start.

Oh yeah, I'd say the gum is what's perpetuating those cravings. One other thing that might help is to search for induction friendly DECADENT recipes (although, I'd advise you not to do the desserts because of the same response you're getting with the gum) but research, plan and cook meals that are just amazing! That way you switch your focus onto what you CAN have instead of what you CAN'T have. And, tell yourself that induction is just 2 weeks, then you can start moving into OWL. You can do anything for two weeks right??
