    Hi Everyone,

I have just started day one of atkins, i am 5'10 inches and weigh 175 pounds and i would really like to get down to 135 or 140. I am a little confused as regards the atkins products, i know the shakes and the bars say they are suitable for phases 1/2/3/4 but from reading some past threads i see you advise to steer clear of them, is this true. I wish to embark on atkins until i reach goal weight however i have exactly 6 weeks until a beach holiday can anyone advise me on how much roughly you feel i could loose before then. I intend to stick to the book completely no cheating and excercising daily.
any thoughts would be greatly received, and will boost my will power

    thank you all

    Hi there lmc25

Welcome to ADBB. Yes, you are right - most people here would advise avoiding shakes, bars etc at least at first, if not long term, because it can create problems with stalling. For induction especially, it is important to eat only foods on the induction list of DANDR. Make sure you have the book and re-read it. Also there is a list of induction foods in the FAQ section of this site.

As for how much you can lose for your beach holiday it depends on a few things. It seems to me that for your height you don't have a great deal of weight to lose, so that means that your weight loss might be slower than people who start the diet with a great deal of weight to shift. It also depends on age, gender and your own metabolic resistance. The older people are the harder it can be, and men tend to lose faster than women. Rest assured though that if you stick to induction rules, then OWL and get your water and your exercise then Atkins will help to shift the most in those 6 weeks.

For me, it is exercise that really helps to burn it off, so plan lots. Joining a challenge is a great idea for exercise and there are loads of good ones to choose from. You don't have to wait for a new one to start. However this one: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=43150 run by Hubby's Girl might suit you.

Best of luck, let us know how you get on

Thanks baarb, appreciate the advise. I carry my weight quite well but i would have about 2 stone to loose. I am intending on sticking to induction for the 6 weeks just to achieve the most i can before my holiday. im going to also try to keep up with the nightly walks and do some toning excercises

Stick with unprocessed foods for the fastest weight loss...fresh or frozen meats and vegetables and water. Stay away from artificial sweeteners, low-carb products, highly processed foods, diet products, coffee and the like. The closer you get to foods that are in their natural form, the less likely you will encounter an ingredient that will stall your weight loss.

It would be difficult to guess how much you might lose, as the above post mentions all the variables. But if you're wondering whether it will all come off, that's unlikely. One to two pounds per week is a reasonable pace for many, which would likely put you somewhere between 5 to 10 pounds lost in total. You could of course lose less or more.

If you really want to have a good idea of what to expect in 6 weeks, keep your first two weeks of Induction 100% clean...no bars, shakes, diet sodas, low-carb products etc. ONLY the foods on the acceptable list. The chart in the book will then give you an estimate of your metabolic resistance to weight loss, which gives you a little estimate of how fast you might lose weight.

        Best of luck to you!

The others have said it, no real way of knowing how much weight you can lose in that time, but stick to eating on-plan, drink your water and exercise and I am sure you will be a loser!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
