    Help!

I am on day five of induction with absolutely no cheats and I stepped on the scale to find that I have gained a pound???

I have been in ketosis since day three and I usually try to do some moderate exercise...around 20-30 minutes of walking everyday. I really don't know what could be causing me to gain...it is two weeks before my TOM so I don't think it could be that.

Here is exactly what I have ate for the last two days:

    Sunday:
Breakfast: ham and cheese rollups: 4oz ham and 2 oz cheddar cheese
Lunch: grilled chicken salad with six ounces canned chicken, two cups of greens, a sprinkle of bacon (probably around a TB), and regular caesar dressing (no carbs).
Dinner: Grilled ribeye steak and steamed broccoli (1 cup raw) with garlic butter.
Water intake: 5 big glasses (20 oz each)

    Today:
Breakfast: three slices of turkey breast (I was running late)
Snack: three more slices of turkey and 2 oz cheese
Lunch: Tuna salad: 6 oz tuna, two TB mayo, 1/8 chopped onion, small salad (one cup of greens and caesar dressing (zero carbs)).
Dinner: Baked chicken breast, roasted squash and onions (about a cup), 2 ounces of cheese for dessert.
Water intake: 4 big glasses (20 oz each) so far.

Does anyone have any suggestions???? My turkey and ham are nitrate free and organic.

    Thanks!

Your menu looks good. Just be sure to be eating enough.

Be sure to read this: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5090

Stay away from the scale until your induction is up. Also be sure to take your measurements and beginning/progress photos. When the scale isn't responding, that's what will really keep you inspired.

Kudos to you for such a great start with eating, water and exercise! Stay faithful and it'll reward you.

There are going to be day to day fluctuations on the scale. You'll go up and down all the time. I will admit I am a daily weigh-er, but I only get to write it down in my journal or put it in my signature on Tuesdays (once a week). Your menu looks fine to me.

I do the same thing.... I weigh everyday, put myself through un-nessesary worry and only record each Tuesday as well. It's just easier that way. I am trying to stop the daily weigh ins but thats a whole nother issue in itself...LOL

I do find that 1 1/2 to 2 weeks befor TOM arrives, the scale start going a little nuts on me. They'll be the same, then up, then back down, then a HUGE jump, and then a HUGE loss after TOM leaves. Just stick with it and I'm sure you will see results.

Great Job on your menu too, it looks great My only suggstion would be elimintae the onions for a day or two and see what happens. Onions are higher in glycemic index, as well as tomatoes, and they do tend to effect some...including me

Hope this helps and good luck!! Keep us posted!

I too have been worried about the jump in weight - and I am trying very hard to keep in mind that this T-O-M keeps water around and is likely the cause of my 2 pound weight gain. I have been pretty faithful (I still drink one diet soda w/ slenda a day) - and even today at a restaurant birthday lunch, I ate only an antipasti salad (w/lettuce) and no dessert even though the server brought a plate full of goodies for the four of us. MY FAVORITE too - lemon bars and chocolate molten cake. Not a bite........and not a budge on the scale in the right direction.

Please, someone, tell me that it's only my T-O-M and to stay off the scales! Sigh. It's easy for me to get down and want to give up but I want to stay on the right track ........

          Thank you.

Stay off the scale. Plain and simple. Why? Because Dr. Atkins knew what he was talking about.

You can lose ENTIRE SIZES on Atkins and never see any scale movement at all. That number simply doesn't matter.

Please read the stickys at the top of this forum.

Are you eating enough? Are you full? Is your mouth getting a regular taste of butter, chicken fat, meat fat, cheese so that it gets the chemical signal it is being fed well?

Cultivate patience for the long haul. Thats what sucessful Atkineers do. This wonderful program is about so much more than losing weight - its about nurturing you, emotionally, physically and mentally too.

The scale will never nuture you - its like the ego. Best to keep it in check.

Thank you thank you thank you. Having a world of very "thin and petite" people around me and trying to stay true to my plan can be a challenge.....I know I really need this board and all the folks who are kind enough to write because, well, it is helpful.

Okay, what stickies? Please explain? Not sure what you mean!

Stickies are the important or specially interesting posts at the top of each forum that have been 'pinned' there so they stay easily accessible to us without having to search for them They are marked by a little map pin beside the thread title
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Thanks for the replies...the scale still hasn't budged but I can button pants that I couldn't a week ago. I have read all the great stickies and while I know that its not uncommon for the scale not to budge, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't eating some hidden carbs!!!! EVIL hidden carbs...

daisy - only weigh yourself once a week. Yeah, I know. Okay.... only COUNT the weight that you take once a week. Be sure to take your measurements at the same time. For me, I never lost inches and pounds at the same time. It would seem that I'd lose inches.... and then the pounds - never both at the same time! As long as you're losing one or the other... keep smiling!!

                        Throwing in the towel?

                        Hi --

I can totally relate. It's been ten days for me and I've been fluctuating in the same 3-5 pound loss range.

Last two days, no sign that I had lost anything at all: back up to starting weight.

I'm feeling drawn to throwing in the towel.

This is me, fighting with myself.

                          Peachy,

Don't give up!! I am having the same problem. I lost several pounds in the first couple of days but now have sort of stopped. BUT I am still losing inches! Have you measured yourself? Do you clothes feel better? That's very important. I have definitely lost inches and am able to fit into clothes that I couldn't wear last week, even though I haven't lost any pounds in a couple of days. Don't sweat it! The scale is not usually our friend!
