  • Flax seeds? Clueless!!

    Hi guys,

I tried running a search on here for this question but didn't see anything, so I apologize if it's already been answered. I see lots of recipes using flax/linseed as a substitute for bread/crust type stuff, but I'm confused as to whether it is allowed on induction or not? I thought we couldn't have any seeds/nuts. Also, if I CAN have it, what is the carb value, for the seeds and the ground form, and where the heck to I find this stuff? And for an update, I'm stuck at 6lbs lost on my 6th day due I think to a little over carbing thanks to my cream cheese yesterday. I'm still carrying on though!! Thanks for any help you can provide

Ground flax seeds (linseed in UK) is allowed on induction under the rule covering constipation!
    12. If you are constipated, mix a tablespoon or more of psyllium husks in a cup or more of water and drink daily. Or mix ground flaxseed into a shake or sprinkle wheat bran on a salad or vegetables.
So if you are having that sort of bathroom problems you can start by using one tablespoonsworth of any of those three fibre foods and see how it helps and increase if it doesnt do the job!

You are right - for using any seeds as regular ingredients or snacks we are told to wait till the grains/seeds rung of OWL.

In UK it is really only easily bought at health food shops but from what I read here in USA you can buy it in ordinary grovery shops and supermarkets.

Carb counts will vary according to brand but it should be on the packs you buy it in.
www.fitday.com has one cup of flax seeds as containing 53.09 carbs less 43.24 grams fibre leaving net carbs of 9.85 per cup. This equates to 0.615 net carbs per flat tablespoon of seeds, which would probably make nearly 2 tablespoons once ground.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
