  • Feeling yucky.....but then again

    Hi all,
I feel very guilty about complaining but I feel terrible .
I've read on here that some people get some problems at the beginning of induction feeling sick and having headaches. I feel like I have a cold on the way could this be the induction flu that I've been reading about? If so how long on average does it last for cos the prospect of the school run isn't filling me with happy thoughts.
On a happier note though, when shoppng for groceries this morning I came across a sweetener whilst I was looking for splenda that said on the front of the packet that it is completely carb free. It was called slimmers brand or slimming brand. I stuck with buying the splenda cos I heard that was best to use but I thought I would mention the other brand on here to see if anyone else had heard of it or tried it.
Also was very happy last night when experimenting in the kitchen. I love southern fried chicken wraps which are obviously a no no during induction so I made my own version and wrapped them in lettuce leaves instead of tortillas! Also discovered that large flat field mushrooms make a delicious substitue for hamburger buns!
Surprisingly I feel better now having realised I have several things I'm happy about and only one thing to complain about!
    Thanks. Bex

    Re: Feeling yucky.....but then again

Hi Bex, Sorry to hear you are feeling some side effects of withdrawal but I'm sure it will pass in a few days. Just stick with the plan because the wait is definitely worth it! And thanks for the tip of wrapping things in lettuce leaves. I had forgotten how much I used to enjoy that because I've gotten into the habit of buying the bags of chopped lettuce and other salad greens instead of the heads. This is my second day on Atkins and I'm doing great. I did it several years ago and lost 28 lbs. but gained it back after several family tragedies in 05 and 2 surgerys in 06. Anyway lets both just hang in there and get the job done! Happy eating!!! jadni

      Thanks for the support blueberrylady!
I love hearing about other people's successes doing atkins. It is so inspiring and really spurs me on when I'm having a weak moment!

I hope that you have as much success this time round as you did last time and that this time nothing gets in your way of achieving,
      Bex.

        I love England

I just read your profile and saw that youre from England. I've been there 6 times and love it. The last time I was there I got within 10 feet of the Queen!! I was thrilled!!! How's the weather over there. I have friends in Birmingham, London, and Blackpool. I'd love to hear from you again. Jadni

The weather in Bristol is gorgeous and has been for the past 3 weeks. It's a little cooler today than it has been but thats due to it being windier.
You've gotten closer to the Queen than I have thats for sure. Where abouts did you go to when you were over here?

            Re: Feeling yucky.....but then again

It sounds like you're having better weather than we are. It's been very cold and windy here but it's getting better now.
The last time I was in England, I was with my cousin and we just bummed around without any hotel reservations or anything. First we spent 4 days in Spain, then a day in Paris, we went to London by train thru the Chunnel, then went straight to Edinburgh for 2 days cos my cousin's father was Scottish, (I had been there before but she hadn't) and then we spent 2 days in Blackpool and 4 more in London. The reason for the trip was that we were invited to the wedding in Spain of one of her foreign exchange students. That was in June of 04.
In August of that year I started Atkins and loved it until the holidays arrived. I think the reason I couldn't get back on the diet was because I was bored with the food. I wasn't very creative with recipes and all those other ingredients just upped the carb count anyway so I was living on eggs, chicken, tuna and hot dogs. But when I got on this bulletin board the other day and read the 2 week eating plan, I was amazed (and delighted) at the things they've added. I have a new shopping list and I'm going to town in a couple of hours and getting my kitchen stocked with more appealing foods. Have you read their 2 week plan? It sure inspired me!
I won't be back on the board for 4 or 5 hours but I hope we can keep talking and encouraging each other. Till next time, take care.

              Re: Feeling yucky.....but then again

Hi again Solenna, How are you feeling now? I hope the withdrawal symtoms are gone. I tried to write yesterday but was having computer problems and then I couldn't find you! I finally but in a search for your name in the member's list.
I am still losing weight although I've made a couple of slip-ups. There was a bag of grapes on the table the other day and without thinking, I ate 8 of them, then, several hours later it dawned on me that they aren't allowed on Atkins. And I did the same thing yesterday when I ate a spoonful of peas while I was heating them on the stove. But I've been keeping the calories in check and the carb count, but my weight loss would go smoother if I could just not eat without thinking first.

                Re: Feeling yucky.....but then again

                Hi Solenne,

I hope you're feeling better! The headaches and general feelings of lousiness were worst for me around Day 4. Headaches were noticably better by Day 6 but it wasn't till very recently (Day 9 or 10) that I started feeling relatively normal again.

I am sometimes forgetful about taking my vitamins and I find that this makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in how I feel. Water too.

I'll admit, I still have a few moments during which I feel a bit weak or crankier than usual (scary, trust me!) but for the most part the "induction flu" for me lasted about 5 days.

Can't wait to hear how great you're feeling when it passes and you begin seeing results!

                  Re: Feeling yucky.....but then again

I am starting to feel better - if that involves being wide awake at the most ridiculous times of the morning and on a weekend too! Its day 6 for me and I'm quite pleased with my progress so far. My kids keep offering me forbidden foods though which isn't funny!

Jadni - I'm sure the couple of slip ups you've had won't make too much difference. I had one of the atkins advantage chocolate bars on my second day of induction - I didn't realise that they weren't really a good idea on this phase despite what the packet says. It hasn't seemed to have made much difference if any. Maybe you could keep some atkins friendly foods nearby when you are cooking so if you have to pick at something you have something that won't interfere with your hard work.

                  Thanks for the support
                  Bex

                    Re: Feeling yucky.....but then again

Solenna, It sounds like you're full of energy and that's great as long as you're not losing too much sleep! As for the Atkins bars, I used to buy one to eat on the way home from town so that I was full and didn't start eating as soon as I got in the door but they were so good that I started buying two instead of just one and that started the cravings again so I had to stop buy them altogether. Try not to let them become addictive as I did and you should be alright. I did this after induction because at that time, 04, they weren't allowed at first.
We are going to a friend's house for lunch today and I think I'll be alright; just meat and veggies for me, as long as she doesn't serve corn, peas or carrots. Bye for now.

                      Re: Feeling yucky.....but then again

Someone else cooking lunch sounds like heaven. I feel like I may as well move into my kitchen for the duration! Good job my energy levels ae up for all the grocery shopping and cooking I'm doing.
As for the atkins bars - the chocolate orange one is the one I had and it was lush. Only ate half the bar and felt full.

I'm not too worried about the sleep thing. I keep waking up naturally and feeling refreshed so I figure that my body is getting the rest it needs. Not so sure I appreciate it so much on the weekends when I really have no reason to get up so early! But it may help during the week when I have to get up at stupid o'clock to get the kids to school!

Hope you have/have had a good lunch out. We are about to have our evening meal here. (Time differences are so weird!)

                      Speak to you soon.

                        Hi Solenne!

Make sure that you take the multivitamins (without iron) for the first few weeks - they really do help you get through those grotty days, I found the first 3 weeks I was having 'light headed' moments, but soon realised it was the days where I didn't take the multivits! I think all the extra water flushes your body of those important minerals and vitamins.

Very best of luck to you all with it - I am enjoying this WOE. - even better is that I dont have food on the brain all the time like I did when doing WW.

Thanks UK Girl. Does iron have an adverse effect when doing atkins? I ask because I'm anaemic and my doc keeps threatening me with iron tablets. I don't want anything undoing what I've achieved already.

I believe it is due to it making you constipated - but I could be wrong - that is just what I assumed!
