  • six days in, doing well, need advice!!

    Hi all

I am on Day 6 and lost 12lbs to date! I put this down to no cheating, drinking 3 litres of water everyday and walking the dog (continuously) between 1 to 2 hours everyday including weekends. I have the Atkins book which I recommend to all new starters, I am reading it in tandem with dieting,

Heres my problem! I am away from home staying tonight in a lovely hotel (a castle no less). The hotel has no room service and I dont fancy sitting by myself in the restaurent asking the chef to make an atkins type meal (I am sure in due course I will know exactly what I want!!). Can you guys advise what i could get from a local supermarket which will keep me on track. I live in the UK so think along the lines of Tescos, Sainsburys or an Asda. My current plan is cucumber slices and raw celery with cottage cheese, couple of small tins of sardines in oil, followed by some raw rhubarb (dipped in double cream)which has always been a weird favourite of mine. Anything else you can recommend?

Breakfast is fine in the morning as Mr Chef will be pleased as I plough through his full english (minus toast)!!

Steve, be careful with the full English tomorrow am. Miss out the sausages as in England they do tend to be packed full of a lot of fillers.

Buy some ham and cheese (Cheddar) from tesco, along with your cucumber and a bit of lettuce to make a makeshift ploughmans.

Don't have the cottage cheese, cottage cheese is illegal on induction.

I too am in the Uk.

      Blimey that was quick!

Cottage cheese out (not had any at all in induction but glad I posted), chedder cheese in as well as ham. Ploughmans lunch sounds a great idea (shame its pouring with rain!)

Can you explain any more about the "fillers" in sausages? I am sure not only myself would be interested.

Take a look at the packaging and the nutrition breakdown on the side of a selection of "banger" next time you are in a shop.

I was in Sainsburys last week and for the crack I looked at the ingredients of some of their cheaper sausages! Hard to believe but they had just 32% pork in them. The rest was made up of "fillers". bread crumbs and other non meat based products. You can get some better quality sausages over here, but you aren't likely to get them for breakfast in a hotel.

Hi archiegitdog. Congrats on yr loss to date. Well done! I work in sales so spend a huge amount of time staying in hotels - I hear you! My top tip to you, is to ensure you have bacon and eggs for breakfast - if they have mushrooms all the better too. One advantage of staying in hotels, they now often have continental style breakfasts, so there may be hams and cheese you can also put on your plate. Last week while on induction I was in UK on business and stayed in a hotel for 4 nights. I thought I'd never manage induction, but you'd be surprised how it can work. They only had sandwiches on room service, so I asked for a chicken salad without the bread and they were happy to help. I did brave the restaurant and found that I could order a steak minus the sauce and asked for a side salad as opposed to veggies. Waitress never blinked when I asked for this. When they came with the bread tray I politely said no and all in all, it was a lovely meal, relatively pain free!
Snack wise, make sure you have a few legal snacks with you - like cheese sticks - just in case you get the munchies and are tempted by the mini bar!

          Good luck!
