I just read the post titled "Cheese visual" and I am afraid I messed everything up. I am on day 6 now. Does this mean you can't even have 1 mozarella string cheese from Costco? I thought since 1 stick was = 1 carb that it was only 1 ounce! I thought that pre-sliced colby jack cheese was also 1 ounce per serving. Please tell me if I am wrong!!

Re: have I ruined 6 days because of cheese?
Check the nutrional information on the package; my string cheese (Lucerne aka Safeway brand) is about 1 oz per stick.

Re: have I ruined 6 days because of cheese?
As Amy Lou said - most foods have the weight printed on the pack, so look at it to see how heavy the whole pack is and if there are more than one serving in the packet divide the total weight by the number of servings to see how heavy each serving is.
So if the whole pack contains 8 ounces of cheese and there are 10 pieces in it then one piece is 0.8 ounce and should be counted as having 0.8 carbs. Dr Atkins tells us to count each ounce as being one carb no matter what the true count is.
From the allowed list*All cheeses have some carbohydrate content. The quantity you eat should be governed by that knowledge. The rule of thumb is to count one ounce of cheese as equivalent to one gram of carbohydrate.
I think this was to make us start to limit portions, as personally I could have easily eaten half a pound of cheese as a snack when I started induction!!
As to your question - I seriously doubt you have 'ruined' your induction if you have eaten more cheese than allowed.
Just work out how much you are allowed and stick to that amount from now on.
When you reach OWL dairy rung you can add more of the induction-legal cheese as well as the others if you like!!Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

1 string cheese is 1 carb. Cheese is my sticking point on induction, I always eat right up to my limit, it's hard for me to stay at the 3-4 oz allowed because I like cheese on and in everything lol!SLIM IN 6!

Re: have I ruined 6 days because of cheese?
The cheese visual is to help folks out who just slice a hunk off a block of cheese.
In the US, most block cheeses are weighed. So you know that you are buying an 8 ounce block of cheddar. The easiest way to divide that block into 1 ounce pieces is to cut it in half and cut the halves into halves and those halves into halves for a total of equal 8 pieces.

Another good reason for climbing the OWL ladder once you have completed 14 days on induciton!!Originally posted by skinnymom!Cheese is my sticking point on induction, I always eat right up to my limit, it's hard for me to stay at the 3-4 oz allowed because I like cheese on and in everything lol!
On the dairy rung you can add another 5 net carbs of cheese as well as adding things like ricotta and cottage cheese if your body can handle them!!Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: have I ruined 6 days because of cheese?
Relax, everyone takes time learning how to to perfect this WOE. Of course you haven't ruined 6 days. This WOE is an education for a lifetime. 4 ounces of cheese is allowed everyday on induction. I always saw that as about 4 fingers worth. That seemed to work for me anyway. I didn't stress about it.
Eat, eat, eat!!!!
