  • I cant even make it through the first day!

    Sorry all but I am feeling a little down. I have started Atkins I dont know how many times. I start..im good all day then BAM! my willpower goes out when I get home. I am a nurse and I am exhausted at the end of the day. How the heck do I make it through the first week if I cant make it through the first 24 hours?? I know Atkins works I have lost a couple of times on it. First 55 about 10 years ago then 30 about 2 years ago. I am restarting tomorrow morning. I have to do something..i feel so down on myself..how did i let myself get this way? Im sure some if not most of you all know what i mean...thanks for letting me vent. I can do this.....i know i can. I just have to get through the first 2 weeks. Think positive!

    I have faith in you, you can do this. Im a highschool student, my friends are eating french fries at lunch, have candies in class and offer me some and chocolate too, my weakness. If I can do it and be on day 23 now, you can do it too, come on hun do it , FOR YOURSELF! I know u can! After those two weeks its almost like smooth sailing, I know those first two weeks were double (he double hockey sticks) the second time around but u can do it, u know u can, you've had success before, put ure mind to it and dont give up, keep truckin, dont give in to temptation! DO IT! (Now theres me ranting) Dont forget we are all here to help

      i think we all know how you feel, i am a teacher and when i get home from work i am DRAINED....MAKE A PLAN. have a snack ready and waiting for when you walk in the door. plan to walk or workout in some way.....have a check in session here at the board...
      it is all about being prepared.....
      i KNOW that you can do this again!!!! come on girl! let's go!

          Like MS said, have a plan. If you are drained when you get home, have plenty of easily prepared foods on-hand. Hardboil a bunch of eggs at one time so you have them ready to go as snacks. Buy bagged salad mixes so all you have to do is add some protein, dressing, and cheese, and you've got a full meal! Buy cheesesticks, pepperoni, and cut up veggies into portioned baggies.

          I used to think "Oh, it's so much work to eat healthy foods" but now that I've gotten into the groove, I realized it's EASIER to eat healthy foods than it is to eat all that junk. And since these foods to be SOOO satisfying, I wouldn't want to eat anything else, even if it WERE easier!

          Try planning out menus for a week, or at least a couple of days. Go shopping, buy and prep all the foods you'd need and then some. In the beginning I always bought WAYYYYYYYYYY too much stuff, but I always figured I'd rather waste a couple of stalks of celery than have NOTHING in the house and be tempted to eat pasta.

              You're down on yourself I understand that. Some of us feel that way day to day, and have to find ways to overcome it. You just need to Start. Once you have a few days under your belt, you'll begin to feel more in control. The thing is, you've already started and don't know it. You came here, stated your intentions, and intentions almost always lead to actions. Don't feel down, feel up about the fact that at least you're Doing something about how you feel about yourself, not everyone can say that. As of tomorrow YOU can.

                I have been in your shoes before.. To get you through your first two weeks you need to have a plan.. You need to know what you are going to eat every day for the first few days.. Fix something in a crockpot for when you come home its done.. On your days off...Cook ahead.. and have something waiting for you to heat up..

                  Hey Andie! We're all here for ya. We all have been there, so we understand. What I used to do was look through the before and after forum and read the success forum. Those pictures and stories really motivated me. This is an addiction you're trying to break. You just need to have that strength to break thorugh it and then it'll become natural. We know you can!

                    I agree with the others. Prepare legal snacks and a good meal during your work day.I'm sure you have refrigerator/microwave facilities at work.

                    When I say a "good meal", I mean something like a piece of meat (chicken, pork, beef, etc.) and a vegetable---something like you would have for dinner. You could heat it up and have a hot meal. I think too often we think of lunch as "salad". Well, salad for lunch can get boring and it can also make you feel 'deprived' or 'on a diet', especially if you were a sandwich-for-lunch person. So if you bring a substantial type of lunch, for example leftovers from last night's dinner, you'll feel more satisfied.

                    The other thing too is if you are a salad person, use other veggies in that salad in addition to the lettuce. Eating different textured vegetables will keep your meal interesting and fools your brain into thinking the meal is more substantial.

                      The key for me is to let myself eat as much of whatever kind of legal food I crave to get through the first couple of days. If its bacon then I allow myself to eat a lot of if thats what I want. Also splurge and buy yourself a nice rib eye or lobster some favorite food and plan to have that for dinner when you get home. It will be something to look forward to and it will fill you up. Everyday gets easier. Just keep repeating that. Everyday gets easier.

                        I agree with this too.. I ate tons of Bacon the first two weeks.. Now I eat it about once or twice a week..

                          Wow how famailiar your story is!

                          Do you have a friend that would do this with you? It always helps to have a Buddy - yeah I know there are loads of virtual friends here but maybe someone that you can share meals and ideas with - and to keep an eye on each other!

                          The other thing apart from like others have said about having your food ready - is maybe a change in routine - perhaps going for a walk or cycle ride after dinner - maybe you have a neighbour that needs a dog walked. Perhaps you could walk together?

                          What I do know is - having gotten trough that wall has made my eating so much better - no more sweet cravings, extra high carb snacks - all gone and I feel great!
