  • Newbie and ??'s

    Hi Everyone,

My name is Tanya. I started Atkins 4 days ago. I am getting really disappointed. I have not lost any weight yet. Do you usually see a loss so soon?

Also, are the breakfast bars (cinnamon bun and choco crisp) ok during induction?

Oh, is the sugar free jello allowed in induction and can you use salt?

I am on a mission, but hope to see a loss soon. I want to lose 55 pds. I would be happy with 45.

I have been lurking for a few days, so much great info =)

    Thanks.
    Tanya

I'm a newbie but you should read the book as all your questions and concerns (and more!) are answered and discussed in the book. Let me handle some of them...different people have different results...for example, I lost 4 pounds and I am on Day 4. Gelatin with Splenda as a sweetener is recommended. Stay away from bars in the induction phase....

    And go get a book.

You are cheating yourself without it as you may be doing a whole hosting of things incorrectly and will satatoge your efforts.

I read the book 2 times and I like to review every night so I can see if I am on track and continue to see how the next stages will be and what to watch out for.

    Good luck.

And excuse my sloppiness in spelling...

Seriously, the book is a savior. Use it as a reference.

Induction has to be done to the T so if you don't have all the ins and outs, you may not be doing it correctly (correctly in the sense of how to succeed). The book will tell you that Splenda products are favored over the other sweetners, stay away from caffeine in Induction, and you need to read every label and really think what you are eating as far as carbs and hidden carbs (like in condiments and other sneaky items).

I would hate to think that you are trying to do everything right and not know that there are other little trade secrets and the correct way to do Induction bu not reading the book.

You can find them in on the web or my favorite little place was larger thrift shops (like Good Will or Value Village...there are usually many copies and I picked mione up for .99 cents).

        Again, good luck to you!

            Tanya,
A lot of people on the board advise against the bars as it has caused many people to stall. We go by the 2002 version of the book and Atkins bars are not allowed on induction.
Unfortunately Sugar-Free Jello has Aspertain (spelled wrong) which isn't allowed but you may be able to find a no-brand gelatin that is made with Splenda that you could have.
Salt is allowed but too much can cause you to retain water so you may want to watch your salt intake & don't forget to drink your water.
I feel like a bearer of bad news and PLEASE if I am wrong somebody please correct me.

Advice on scales, dont get on them more than once a week! pick a weigh in day and stick to it! also take some measurements www.mybodycomp.com is a good place to put them, when your weight loss stalls in a diet - which it does for everyone at some point or another! use the tape measure to keep yourself happy, as when the scale stalls is usually when your body starts moving!

No - Dont eat any breakfast bars, no bars at all... you can only eat what is on the acceptable foods list. so no bars and no shakes.

Sugarfree jello has Aspartame in it, this stalls lots of people, so generally its a no! though after your initial 2 weeks you could add this in just to see if it stalls you!

Sugar free jello doesnt seem to stall me, but I've only had the odd bowl, when really I need something sweet. Check out the various stickies on this forum too, they have invaluable advice & tips on how to survive induction!

                  Re: Newbie and ??'s

I second Kettlebell's suggestion of looking in Thrift shops - I bought 3 copies of DANDR today for at the price of 3 for £1 (about 2 US$) at a local charity shop as they had a clearance sale on books!!

The helper there couldnt understand why I wanted to buy 3 copies of the same book so I told her that I like to be able to lend out a copy to people who ask me how I lost my weight and at that price I dont have to worry about them returning it to me!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

                    Major SCORE!

Thrift shops are fab for his books. I want to kill myself as I saw one of his recipe books there for .99 cents and I thought to myself, "nah,...". Next time I will pick it up as I always see his books and some great carb counters too.

I love the fact of not paying retail.
