  • 1st week results

Down 8.2 lbs after my first week and I feel a lot better eating some broccoli compared to when I was avoiding carbs altogether the first 4-5 days. My wife still constantly nags me about how she thinks this has to be completely unhealthy.

Another thing that sucks is a guy tried to sell me on a life insurance policy tonight and couldn't get me any higher than the standard policy due to my weight. I'm giving myself a time limit of 14 weeks(Aug 6th)to get there.

Congrats on the loss thus far! One thing for sure that you've got going for you is your determination, and being a man (so not fair for faster metablisms). I can totally see you reaching your goal, and betting that you could do it within 14 weeks as long as you're stickin' to the Atkins game plan as a way of eating for life so you can continue to be on that life insurance plan. Best wishes on your journey!

Why would I deviate from the induction plan until I get there?

I didn't see that you were either sticking to Induction or moving up the OWL ladder in your post; sorry, if I missed that one. But, you may find that you can stay in extended induction for a while, however, moving up the rungs of adding in more carbs a little at a time might help aid the weight loss and be able to move into maintaining once you reach your goal. Something to consider.

Many reasons, forgop! Speaking off the top of my head, here are three for a start!
            1. Some people find the induction choices of food restrictive and get the sense of deprivation, making them long for variety and subsequently 'deviating' when they give in to temptation and eat offplan!!
Those people would be better served by starting to move into the second phase of Atkins, which as it's name implies is the main weightloss stage of the way of eating (Ongoing Weight Loss aka OWL) By increasing their choices of 'legal' food they are more easily able to stay on-plan while enjoying their way of eating.

            2. Sticking to induction levels of eating - only 3 cups of induction vegetables which should make up most of your 20 net carb allowance, no milk, fruits, nuts, etc, etc - does not necessarily mean losing weight faster than if you move to OWL.
Many of our members found that making the step forward and introducing the different food groups as advised in DANDR actually seemed to increase their weightloss after a few weeks of induction eating.

            3. Dr Atkins tells us to make sure we reach the third stage of Atkins when we have 5-10 pounds of weight left to lose, so moving to OWL sooner rather than later would allow you the chance to thoroughly explore the effects the different foods have on your boy in relation to wellbeing and cravings as well as weightloss.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Well done forgop on results to date. I bet when you start making big progress towards your insurance goal, your wife will soon see the benefits of this woe. I've never felt healthier or happier than I have been since I started this woe. Good luck on your goal. I'm sure you'll do it!

Soon your wife will see you eating more veggies and probably less meat.. I don't know anyone can say eating veggies is unhealthy. I know when doing ww's I ate practically all carbs..because I could and didn't eat the veggies..

I hear you on the insurance.. My husband is self employed and I am not allowed on his plan.. They denied me based on my weight. I have to be under 200lbs. The plan they offered me was twice what his cost with him and both of our kids.. and didn't have hardly any coverage.. I can't afford that.. So that is my first goal to get under 200lbs. I was also told that I would have a cheaper life insurance price if I was smaller too...
