  • Trouble sticking to Induction Phase

Ok...first of all sorry for the long post but needed to put this all down here.

I was on the Atkins at the end of last year and ended up losing 20lbs. Very happy with that, although I didn't reach my goal weight which is 160. I fell kinda short at 185. Anywho...I went on a mini snowbird trip to Florida from Feb 1 and returned the end of April. Needless to say I went off Atkins while away...(too many good restaurants) and put 15 of my 20 lbs back on...sigh.

So now, since May 1st I have been back on Atkins. I started induction that day (yup I know its more than 14 days...lol) but seem to keep straying from it. The first week I did really well, but after that I seem to stick to the program strictly for a day or two then eat something I'm not supposed to have and fall off.

Here I am May 16 now and I am down 6 lbs from my original start of 200lbs May 1st. Not complaining about that...but I am disappointed in myself because I know I could have done better.

I just can't seem to make it through these 14 days of induction without cheating this time. As I said in a previous post, I have a big sweet tooth so that is a problem for me. What can I have thats legal and sweet to get me by. I know we are trying to get that sweetness craving out of our systems here, but mine just loves me so much it doesn't want to leave....lol.

Does it take 14 days to get into ketosis...or why the 14 day induction? I have read the book but can't remember if it says why we need to be on a strict 20 carb per day routine for 2 weeks???

I made the "Muffin in a Minute" recipe I found here and love it. They are so filling too which is great.

Ok, well thank you for reading and letting me vent. Today again is the first step in my journey to my goal weight. Wish me luck! I CAN DO THIS

It's 100% up to you. The only thing I can say is you have to honestly ask yourself which is more important to you? That sweet sensation at that moment, or being thin?

Because I can tell you that up to this point...that something sweet has been MORE IMPORTANT TO YOU than being thin. Because if being thin was more important, you'd forego the sweet treat that keeps perpetuating your addiction AND your fat-ness.

It's tough...but this is what I have to tell myself EVERY SINGLE DAY. Now, the cravings WILL go away if you just stick it out. Stick it out for two weeks with NOTHING sweet and the cravings WILL go away. They WILL. But not if you continue to perpetuate them by having 'treats' made with artificial sweetners.

It takes about 14 days to comfortably change a habit with another. So, if you stick to a clean 14 day induction...your body starts to adjust to the changes and you don't have the cravings that you had in the beginning of the program.

When you are finding it difficult to stay on plan...OWL might be just what you need to feel more satisfied with your selection. When I find myself getting frustrated I re-plan to add more interesting menus, add exercise to boost my spirits or get myself motivated with success stories or motivational tapes/cds. The ADBB challenges are great for giving you positive reinforcement and support with others who encourage each other and give strength in focusing on goals.

Here's wishing you the best success. You can do this. Get your mind revved up with positive thoughts, quotes, phrases and stay active with others who are doing it.

Hello, this is day 8 of induction and I too find it hard at times to pass up the culvers cone or the popcorn at the movies but like it was said before look at where it has got us. Taking a walk does help me get into a different frame of mind, Also I look back at my wedding photos and think that is how I really want to look like all the time, so it curbs the urge to eat something off plan. You can do it one meal at a time if that's what it takes.

I have a horrible sweet tooth...and even though I have been on Atkins for 7 weeks I haven't given in.. What you MUST do is tell yourself every day every meal I am going to make it through.. The more days you get the better you will feel..Trust me.. When you get discouraged...come here and post.. One thing I do that does help me is I take Cream cheese and nuke it in the microwave for 20 seconds...and stir in 1 packet of splenda.. The creamy taste helps me through..
